The man said, "Well, I'm not actually her real father. I took care of her mother in her dying days, and she asked me to take care of the child."

"Ah." Sora nodded. "How did you know her mom?" He could see this man wasn't really one to have people to socailise, so he figured that he'd talk to him, make him feel comfortable. Sora smiled at him, his blue eyes studying him. He played with his bright red hair, holding the container of pink liquid.

The man said, "I used to own a big business, and... I was preoccupied, and the girl's mother had had her out of wedlock, and one of the assistants thought it best not to have a loose woman around. I should have looked into it, and the young woman lost her job. She became a... a woman who sells herself, and she kept getting sicker and sicker. Eventually I saw her, and I knew I had to help her. I tried to nurse her back to health, but it didn't work. All she wanted, in the end, was someone to take care of her child."

The man chuckled when Sora called him good. "Good? I wouldn't call myself a good man. I've had my fair share of sin and doubt. Believe me, I just want to live in peace."

Aviance returned with the little girl, who was now rubbing her eyes sleepily. "Papa, when will we start walking again? I'm ready."

The man quietly said, "We can leave now, if you'd like."

my faith in spring break has been restored

Yaaaay!

I went to a cookout, then ate dinner with the family. And we had a good time! (which is very surprising)

The man opened his mouth to protest, but Aviance said, "I'm going to cook a meal for all of us. And I insist that you and the girl stay here to join us. I will be highly offended if you don't. Oh, and if the girl isn't contagious, she can meet Oliver and play with Lise and Kiara. I hate to see her seeming so lonely." And with that, she went into the kitchen area to cook a hearty stew, and anything else she could think of to make the two newcomers feel better.

The little girl simply went and sat in the man's lap. "Papa, don't be sad. We can stay here for now, see?"

Oliver squealed and waved his arms wildly, kicking his little legs as best as he could. He was definitely going to be a handful when he finally got the ability to crawl.

The man nodded, holding the girl close. She yawned, eventually falling asleep in his arms. "I promised I would keep you safe," he said to no one in particular. "And I intend on keeping my promise."

When Aviance had a small break from cooking, she peeked in the room to see what her two boys were up to. She had to smile, watching them together.

Oliver noticed his mother, and screeched loudly, a drooly grin on his face.

The man said, "My name is Ephraim, and this is Marie."

Marie still slept soundly, obviously exhausted from the day's events, and from her illness.
