"Oh, thanks," Asher replied with a grateful smile, slipping his wallet back into his pocket. He took another bite, "Well, if I had to be honest.. It's actually amazing. Possibly the best I've ever had, maybe on a par wit this one other time."

"No problem," Morgan said, returning the smile. Does he realize what he's doing for me? she wondered, continuing to eat her ice cream. "Wow, best you've ever had? That's a great compliment to Richie. This ice cream has been homemade for almost twenty years. It's his family's business."

"I always think it's best that way, anyway, you know? Though, not all places are ever as good as this, even after twenty years," Asher said. He took a few more bites and said to her, "So you've made me dinner, taken me ice skating and bought me ice cream. I'll have to return the favour sometime. Depending on what you like to do, I guess. I mean, I wouldn't want to take you to dinner or anything if that's not your thing.."

Asher smiled to himself as much as at her when she said that. It meant a lot, when she said that to him, because he wasn't used to hearing it, either. He suggested, "Well, it's my birthday next week so I'd love to go out somewhere and take you with me. I can't say where, I'll have to look around and see what there is, but.. Would you like to? It's on Wednesday."

"I would love to." Morgan said with a smile. She looked at the clock. It read 10:03 p.m. "Wow, it's getting late already..." Morgan finished off her ice cream and sadly said, "I better get home..."

"Great. I'll tell you more about it when I've arranged a little more," Asher replied, smiling cheerfully. He also finished his ice cream, glancing at his watch and said, "Yeah, I suppose I should probably be getting back now anyways. I've had a great time, though."

"Oh," Asher said in reply, looking pleasantly surprised by what she'd said. Probably because he'd been thinking the same thing. He reached into his jacket pocket and handed her the piece of paper with his phone number on, "I forgot to ghve it to you earlier after we mentioned it," he explained. "When are you free? I'd like to hang out before Wednesday sometime, too.

Morgan smiled and took the paper, tucking it into her pocket. "Monday after school?" she suggested. "I'm busy tomorrow, so Monday's the soonest time possible." Pulling her keys out she asked, "Ready?"

Morgan waved good-bye to Richie and walked out the door, holding it open for Asher. Her phone buzzed and she looked at the screen. "Hello?" Morgan answered, holding the phone up to her ear.

Morgan mouthed "Your welcome." to Asher and continued to listen to the person on the other end of the phone. Her eyes grew wide with horror as she stumbled slightly to the car. "OhmygodOhmygod...." Morgan mumbled.

Asher's own eyes grew a little worried, and his eyebrows came close to knitting together as he frowned anxiously upon hearing Morgan's mumbling. He would wait until she was finished on the phone before he asked her what was going on, however.

Morgan just shook her head, not able to form words considering she was crying so hard. She barely realized what was happening- the fact that Asher was actually concerned about her and was making sure she was okay.

Asher persevered and just tried to comfort her. He just said a few things at first to try and calm her. But he eventually pulled her into his arms, a hug to try and make her feel better. "Please tell me what's wrong, Morgan. We'll figure something out."
