Asher followed along willingly, not that he would have argued even if he had been in the mood to. Truth was, he was afraid about being around Morgan's dad when he was already getting totally p'ssed at only the early evening. And, well, Morgan already knew that, despite being the quiet, calm reserved guy that he was, he would have cahnged pretty quickly if something were to happen while he was there. He could also see that Morgan was uncomfortable with it all, unsurprisingly. Once they were out of earshot, he said, softly, "I'm really sorry, if it wasn't a good idea for me to come."

"No, no, this is my fault. I shouldn't have invited you over in the first place." Morgan replied quietly. She unlocked the car and helped Cody get in. She heard a crash from inside and cringed. After a deep breath, she got inside the car and started it. Another crash came from inside.

"MORGAAAAANNN!" Jack came running outside, his face red. Morgan's green eyes got wide as she whisper-shouted to Asher, "Get in the fxcking car. Now." Then to Cody, "Cody, you stay in here, okay? Sissy's going to calm daddy down." Cody, who looked scared, only nodded.

Asher looked at her with a serious expression and said to her, quietly, "Fat chance. I'm not getting in. I'm not letting him touch you, Morgan, I don't care who he is." He stood with his arms folded and watched her steadily.

"Asher, get in the car. I'll be fine." Morgan growled, her eyes narrowing at him. "Just get in the car. I'd rather you be here in case someone needs to protect Cody. I can handle myself." She looked back over at Jack, who had a bottle of vodka in his hand.

Asher opened the car door, took a step in and stopped. He looked at Morgan and said to her, "Fine. But if he gets anywhere near you, I swear, I'm getting out again." Before she could answer he sat down inside and shut the door, his eyes only on Morgan and Jack for a moment, before he checked behind him to see if Cody was alright.

Morgan walked up to Jack nervously. "Yes, dad?" she said calmly. Jack rambled on about how Morgan didn't spend enough time with Janet and that it hurt Janet. Morgan lost it. "Do you ever think of how I feel about her? I hate her. With a burning passion. She's a total b`tch, and she looks down on me. First of all, she's not my f`cking mother. Second of all, I don't have to do what she says. In a few months, I'm turning eighteen. Then, Cody and I will be gone. Forever. Maybe you should stop and see how much you hurt us--"

Jack smacked Morgan across the face. "That's no way to speak to your father." he slurred.

Automatically, her hand went up to her face, which was becoming numb. She stood there for a moment, glaring up at Jack. "That's no way to treat your daughter." Morgan whispered as she started to turn away. Jack grabbed her arm.

Asher had watched to see what happened after Jack had slapped his daughter, to see if things got more violent or if Morgan could just walk away. He looked infuriated already-- how could anyone treat their daughter like that? He turned to Cody, composing himself and speaking gently, not wanting to frighten him, and told him, "Just stay in the car for now, okay, Cody? I'll be back in a moment." He then got out of the car. He didn't care what Morgan said, he couldn't just sit and watch while she got beaten up. His blue-grey eyes looked like ice, piercingly angry as he approached Morgan's father. "You want someone to hit? I don't know what this is about, but you can take it out on me, because you don't treat any girl like this, much less your own daughter," he said to him, motioning to himself as if to say, 'give me your best shot, I'll take the best you've got'.

"No." Morgan said to Asher. "I told you to stay in the car. I can handle myself."

Jack eyed Asher before saying, "Are you going to tell me how to raise my children? Because, last time I checked, I am a d`mn good father to them."

Morgan snorted. "D`mn good fathers don't deserve to go to h`ll. D`mn good fathers don't rape their f`cking seventeen year old daughters. Shall I go on?"

Jack put his hands around Morgan's neck and threw her to the ground. Then he started walking to the car, to where Cody was. Morgan, who was obviously hurt, got up and pounced on Jack. "Don't even think about hurting Cody." she yelled as Jack threw Morgan off yet again, but this time pinning her to the ground.

"Shut the f`ck up, you ungrateful little b`tch." he said to Morgan, his breath reeking of alcohol.

"I can't sit and watch while he hurts you, Morgan. That's the worst thing I could do; you can't fight of a drunk grown man by yourself," Asher replied. Before Jack either could do anything else to Morgan or get up and go to the car, he pulled him off of her by his shirt from behind. Again, for a reserved guy he was strong, muscular, even, his fist holding onto the back of Jack's shirt like a vice. "F'cking d'mn good fathers don't hit their kids or God knows what else. We don't have to fight, you can just let Morgan take me home and nothing has to happen," he said calmly.

"Just let him go, Asher..." Morgan said. She picked herself up and walked over to the car. Jack stumbled back from Asher, a little bit shocked. He walked back to the house, completely off balance. Once he was inside, Morgan turned to Asher and said, "You really didn't have to do that. It happens all the time."

Asher's hand was shaking a little bit. He replied quickly to what she'd said to him, still trying to calm down, "Oh, it does? Well, it shouldn't." He glanced back at the door to check that Jack was gone. "He shouldn't be hurting you or Cody like that, Morgan, you shouldn't let him."

"I try to not let it happen. Obviously that doesn't work out." Morgan noticed that Asher was shaking. "Come on," she said, taking his hand, "you need coffee, or something..." she lead him to the car and waited for him to get in the passenger seat. He seemed more shocked by the situation than she was.

Asher clenched his fist a few times to relax the muscles and then sighed. "I'm sorry," he said, "I never used to be like this.. Just lately, I lose my temper a little more than I should." He sat down at last and breathed out once more.

Morgan quickly got into the driver seat and looked over at Asher. She placed her hand on his and said, "Really, Asher, it's okay. Like I said, this happens all the time." She looked back at Cody and asked, "How 'bout I drop you off at Grandma's?" He nodded. Morgan turned back to Asher and asked, "Is that okay with you?"

"And although it shouldn't, I have no control over that.. But I should have some control over my temper, and I'm apologising for that, because I didn't just then," Asher said quietly, though he was grateful for her trying to comfort him. At her question he replied, "Of course. Fine with me," and let himself smile slightly at last, feeling a little more relaxed.

Haha, I get those moments all the time.. Like right now, so don't worry. xD

Asher sat back and quietly watched the scenery pass by out of the window, not too sure how to strike up conversation, either.

Morgan drummed her fingers on the steering wheel. She looked into the rearview mirror and saw that Cody had fallen asleep. "Are your parents going to be upset that I'm keeping you out so late?" she asked Asher.

Asher looked away from the window to Morgan and smiled slightly, shrugging. "They'll call me if they get worried. I think they'll be happy that I'm actually out with someone, that I'd actually gotten to know a person, so I don't think they'll mind," he said, "and if they do.. Well, then it's my fault for letting you take me out and in any case, they can jump. I'd prefer to be here than at home."
