He shook his head. "Not afraid. Its a worthless lie, that I've been telling though... they all believe it." He looked her, in the eye. "Why do you think they look so similar, if they are only cousins?"

"... Is Kyouri... Reuven?" She whispered. Her eyes were wide.

 

[Self:.:Pity]

He smiled, despite himself. "No. But close- they are brothers. Full brothers. The only two full-blood children I have... had. And no one even knows this. Because Kyouri was born to me first, before even Axie. And when he was born, she didnt ant him, just like she wouldnt take care of Reuven unless I stayed with her. So, I took him, and gave him to my sister, who wanted another child but could not have one... I was distressed when I learned of his fate, and relieved when I found he was still alive, and rejoined with his sister- even if he didnt know it. And now, Im proud of him, for helping Dani even through his hate."

"He's a good kid, you know? I always liked him. I remember when I walked in on him and Sorrow, their first time." She giggled slightly, but then she stopped. "But wait... Didn't he have a twin though? Kigi or something like that. He was blonde? Explain that."

He shook his head. "Not his twin- his real cousin. And he was older. The only kid my sister ever had with her husband."

Elda nodded. "I see. Are you... Ever going to tell Kyouri the truth? Are there any other secrets?"

 

[Self:.:Pity]

He folded away the picture and put the book in his pocket. "I dont know. Axie would need to know too."

Elda curled into him. "Thats more of a lie to Kyouri, not to me. Are than other secrets? You said you were mostly dishonest with me..."

 

[Self:.:Pity]

"Because of my obvious depression. After loosing Axie. I wasnt honest with you about my children." He sighed. "Im sure my family, broken and deceased and otherwise, has many secrets."

She stroked his hair, kissing his cheek. "If you need to cry or anything, you can. I'm here for you, love."

He shook his head, pulling her close. "Im glad I can talk to you, though."

"You can always talk to me." She whispered. "I have a question. Do you really like Gio?"

He nodded. "I wouldnt lead him on so far." He whispered. "I really love him. You, too."

Elda smiled, "this is a weird thing- the three of us, in love. How often does that happen?"

 

[Self:.:Pity]

He laughed. "I dont know. I would say stranger things have happen- but im not sure its true." She laughed.

She kissed his chin. "Who knows."

"Who knows." He repeated, eyes closed.

Elda giggled softly, "I always thought that kid looked like you."

Aviance nodded at Alli, but continued forward, entering the clearing. It was like being in a still frame, or a ghost town. Nothing moved. Nothing stirred. It was terrifying-- and yet, the destruction seemed beautiful to her. She picked up an old piece of cloth, with a strange sign on it. "Hm...." She then looked up, and spotted Jade and Croy. She ran up to Jade, holding out the piece of cloth. "Jade! Is this--"

What happened next was quickly, so quick it almost seemed as if Jade didn't move. But she did. The next instant, Aviance was flying through the air, then hitting a tree. She gasped for breath, horrified.

Jade was on the other end, curled up, panting heavily. "Don't touch me with that thing!" She screamed violently, pointing at the cloth. Her eyes had a frantic, wild look in them. "Don't you touch me! You've been tainted!" She yelled at Aviance. "You could have destroyed me!!! That thing destroyed this place! That thing... and those men!!!! They ruined it! They ruined everything!" She was frantic now, nearly delusional.

 

[Self:.:Pity]

"Yha, well..." He laughed. "Hes mine."

Croy spread wide his wings, defending his girl from any further observation or harm. He, too, was alarmed by her outburst- but he didnt let it show. No, instead he picked her up, trying hard to calm her down. Just stroking her, hiding her face so she could see nothing but his chest.
