He blinked, looking up. His eyes flashed- something like striking gold. "I didnt." He admitted. "I was just.... you know, comparing. I would rather be out here, then... then in there, you know? I didnt know you had already walked those halls- or whatever halls you had walked, you know, before being here."

This was more like Jackson. Stuttering over every word, rambling on.

"Oh," Jade said quietly, believing him. "Yes, I agree. Being out here is much better than... what I've gone through. She didn't talk about the poking and prodding, the attempted pregnancy by a team of scientists, then possible selling into slavery. No, she would not tell him that. She'd rather not be a burden.

"May I be so bold to ask how you escaped that bleak part of your life?" He murmured. "Depending on where you are stationed, freedom is... difficult." He paused. "Did you have help?"

Jade was silent. And then she looked at Jackson and smiled. Loud enough for Croy to hear, she stated, "Well, I did have help. It started when I had to rescue Toby, and he helped me. And then, when I was in trouble... he came and saved me. I consider him my guardian angel."

Jackson blinked at her, but he couldnt hold her gaze. He turned away, to prod at the fire again. "You think hes still... you know.. around?"

Jade said gently, "I know he's around most of the time, watching out for me and Toby." She gave the men some food, then turned her attention back to Jackson. "What's wrong?"

"If hes around..." He murmured. "Then why dosent he come down and take you away from us now? He must have left you, because if he hasnt, he would have taken you away from us."

Jade suddenly glowered. "You don't even know him! How could you... say something like that?" She said quietly, the hurt evident in her voice. "I believe in him." She got up and stormed into Adam's tent.

Adam watched with surprise, coming out of his tent as she went in. "Why isn't she going to her assigned tent?" He asked Jackson as he sat down by the fire.

Adam gaped a little, but it shouldn't have been a surprise. He tread on her tail- so to speak.

In response to Adam (If a delayed one) He shrugged, and formed soundless words with his lips. Fear and confusion flashed in his own eyes.

Adam said, "Something's wrong with her. She tries to play it off, but don't you see it? She used to have this glow around her. It's fading, every day. She looks tired, and-- from what I've noticed-- tasks seem to make her tired more easily."

"Well, I just ticked her off by telling her that her guardian angle probably isnt watching over her anymore, cause he would have taken her out of this place."

Adam shrugged. "I don't know if I even believe in guardian angels. Not that it matters to me, I'm pretty sure I don't have one."

Imma be one for an hour or so tonight.

I might have a concussion, so I cant sleep for another hour or so.

Jackson shrugged back. "Apperently, she does. He keeps saving her over and over from bad things and such. But if he exists, then why isnt he here now?"

Oh my goodness, what happened!? =o

Adam tensed up. "Maybe he is..." he said quietly. "And maybe he's waiting. For what, well, I don't know. But we'd best keep on our guard, in case this guardian angel tries to hurt one of us."

Butch scared me and I took a tumble smack into the metal frame of my brothers bed.

It hurt.

Jackson stopped stirring the fire for a bit. "Adam, have you heard it?"

Yowch! It sounds like it hurt like a b-word.

Adam looked at Jackson, raising an eyebrow. "Heard what?" He asked.

It did.

A lot.

And now I cant sleep cause you cant sleep for like 5 hours after a concussion hit or whatever.

Cause it can really damage your brain or something.

.... im tired.

"Its spring." He murmured. "But nothing is in bloom. Its like this whole part of the forest is dying. Or dead. Have you heard the way it moans at night? Well... Im not sure the forest moans, but something in the forest moans. Its scaring me." He shivered. "And this started happening a while after Jade came to live with us."

There was a long pause from the younger member of the camp.

"What do you suppose her... guardian angle, if we could call it that, could be?"

Yeah. Plus, you're not supposed to sleep in case the damage gets severe and kills you or something.

Adam said, "Well, son, I'm not too sure. But I have my suspicions. I think it could be that strange bat-like creature the others have been talking about."

Didnt an actress just die like that? She hit her head on a ski trip and just went to sleep, and bascially never woke up.

Anyways, you only have to wait a few hours, I think.

He shruged again. "Well. do you think we should keep an eye out for it?"

she went brain dead, basically.

she played the mom in the version of "The Parent Trap" with Lindsay Lohan in it.

yeah.

Adam nodded slowly, but then said, "Unless it attacks us, thought, we shouldn't hurt it, or him."
