Lucy said, "We'll see what the board has to say about what kind of job he'll get. Now please leave. He'll serve, but not under your terms. Come on, Asher." She held his hand and led him back into the apartment, then went over to the phone, making some phone calls.

Asher followed in behind, shutting the door before going over to sit next to her while she made some calls. He still seemed less optimistic than she did about what could happen. He looked deeply thoughtful. If he did go tomorrow, or even in just a few days, that would leave no time to plan to spend some time with Lucy, seeing as it could be his last.

Lucy finished making the calls, then said, "The meeting with the board will postpone your deployment... I may not be able to get you out of serving, but... you might not be fighting, just doing engineering at bases, or deliveries, maybe not even in Vietnam."

"Thank goodness," Asher said, exhaling and running a hand through his hair. "I just can't believe.. That he could be so heartless as to try and take me away from you.. Just like that.. Without a care for any of it."

Lucy said, "They can't show emotion about it, you see. If they put their emotions in the equation... they'd all be messed up mentally. I mean, think about it. So many men come out of war shell shocked, scarred for life. Death is everywhere. They have to harden themselves against it."

"That's why I'm not fit for it.. I could never get to the stage where I'm not affected by death.." Asher murmured. He sighed and said, "I could never kill anyone, Lucy. I don't even want to be a part of this war.. Even if I don't fight, the blood will still be on my hands.."

"Well, you'll have to tell the board that you're against all military service, then. They won't let you use this war specifically as a CO. Or politics, either, so don't bring them up." She wrote down the time. "Your hearing is a 9 am, tomorrow morning. I'll go with you."

"I'm glad you at least know what you're doing," Asher said, smiling a little bit at her now. He gently pulled her into his arms, just for a hug. "I love you." He still seemed tense, though he tried to be more relaxed. He was afraid of what might happen. No matter what he was doing, if he went to Vietnam, that was a whole year away from Lucy.. A whole year. He couldn't bear the thought.

I have to go somewhere, but I'll be back in about a half hour, I think :)

Okiday! See you then!

"Well, we tried it with my first boyfriend... but then he decided to willingly sign up for the armed forces, and when he went into training, he actually felt great about himself. And by willingly signing up, he felt like he benefited a lot more. If only he knew..." She sighed softly, then cuddled close to him. "I know you'll be far away... but I promise you, I'll write to you all the time, and any time you're able to call, you have to call me." She tilted her head up and kissed him, then whispered, "I love you."

Asher nodded and said, "You know I would. I'd call you whenever I got the chance, and for as long as I possibly could. It just.. A whole year without seeing you, seems unbearable. But rather serve a full year behind the scenes than far less because I got gunned down from being in the armed forces.."

Lucy put a finger on his lips, hushing him softly, not wanting to talk about death or injury anymore. "Now, listen to me. Let's not worry about what could happen, okay? I really just want us to spend time together, whether or not we have a lot of it."

Asher noded silently and whispered, "Okay," kissing her finger once, and very gently, allowing himself to smile a little. "So there are a few things I promised you I would do for you. So we'll do them all before I go --if I go. I promised to paint you and I promised to dance with you in the rain. And well, I promise you now, one night, of just you and I. A night you'll never forget. Just those three things, and anything else you ask for."

"Well, I'm going to make a promise to you, but we can only do it when you return." She said 'when' and not 'if'. "I'm going to take you to my favorite place in the whole wide world, and I hope you won't be disappointed. But the three things you suggested sound perfect to me. But we need to get started right away. It's already 10 am! And, luckily, it's raining. So..." She jumped to her feet.

"That sounds wonderful," Asher replied, his smile widening now, more cheerful, more sincere. He got up and reached for a jacket as they went to the front door, shrugging it on for now, and then put some shoes on.

Lucy didn't put on a jacket at all, just running out in sandals, jeans, and a t-shirt. Laughing loudly, she pulled him close, getting into a waltz stance, smiling up at him. "You look beautiful in the rain," she murmured. "In fact... you're gorgeous all the time."

I seemed to have randomly skipped this out when I did a bulk post earlier. How odd.. Think my mind was too fixated with listening to Alicia Keys xD

Asher looked up at the sky and then just pulled his coat off again, throwing it aside before reassuming their waltz position as before. "Thank you," he smiled, "You look even more beautiful in the rain, too."

xD Nice!

Hey, at least it was Alicia Keys and not Big Time Rush.

Lucy laughed quietly, then started humming a song in three four time, to get the rhythm of the waltz just right. Of course, she let him lead, too lost in his eyes to make the first move anyway. She wasn't going to show him that she was sad, because she was going to cry when she was alone.

Alicia Keys is actually just incredible. I don't think she's been appreciated enough until recently. Her first album is pure genius.

Asher lead her, in perfect time to her humming, a step on every beat. He added in a few more complex moves that she could follow. It wasn't well known about him, but he actually had trained with dancers for some, for the benefit of his artwork, in fact. His teacher had said, 'You can't draw something so techincal and passionate as dance if you know nothing of it, and how it should be.' And so, that had lasted for a long while. He gazed back into her eyes. He was going to miss not seeing the every day. A picture would never be enough for him.

I agree!

Lucy had to look away at one point, but made coughing noises in her throat, to disguise the fact that she was crying again. When she couldn't do that anymore, she faked a smile and tilted her face towards the sky, hoping the raindrops would mask the tears. "I love the way rain feels, don't you?"

The piano in it.. There's no words to describe how much I love it <3

"It's amazing. We both know we love the rain. Whenever I see rain, I think about the first time I ever saw you.. Dancing in it without a care in the world," Asher said, looking almost distant in expression as he did so, "Kind of like now, really." He put a hand up to her cheek, cupping her face in it. He knew she was crying-- her tears were so warm compared to the raindrops--, but he made nothing of it.
