"Okay, Tough Guy," she said jokingly, darting across the room to start placing books on the shelves. She would flip the pages, catching whiffs of the paper, the scent comforting and exhilarating all at once. Then, she would place the book on the shelf, making sure they were alphabetized, so they would be easy to find and put back. She stole a look around the apartment, and was very impressed with how it was coming along. "I'm definitely going to like it here," she said to him, nodding.

Asher just rolled his eyes and continued to move the rest of the furniture into place. When he felt he was satisfied for the time being, he joined her in stacking the miscellaneous items around the house. He asked her, "Since you seem to be good at arranging where things should go, could you maybe tell me if you think some of the furniture should be moved?"

Lucy looked around, inspecting everything from top to bottom, her eyes scanning the room in an intense manner. After standing like that for a few minutes, Lucy looked over at Asher and shook her head slightly. "I actually think everything is good the way it is. It's functional, and it looks attractive, so I have no improvements to add to. Besides, if I told you something should be moved, that would just be more time added to this whole process."

Asher smiled, placing another book on the shelf. "Oh, well, great, then. I thought it looked okay." He turned around and observed the room once more, that typical pose with hands on hips as he inspected it. He gave and approving nod and said, "Yeah, it looks pretty decent, I think."

Lucy folded her arms across her chest, then flashed Asher one of her brilliant smiles. "I love it here," she said delightedly, dancing around the room, leaping and twirling, singing raucously-- and not very well at the moment. Of course, she wasn't trying, but that wasn't the point. She was having fun just being completely silly around him.

Asher chuckled as he watched her, leaning back against the wall with his arms folded, a truly happy expression on his face. "Well, welcome home, baby. It's going to be wonderful to have you here with me. I woudln't have it any other way."

when's that thing you planned going to happen? (unless you forgot, hahaha)

Lucy ran up to him and grabbed his hands, leading him in a dance around the room, laughing. "I don't think I'd have it any other way, either," she replied, spinning him around. "Besides, we're much better together than we are apart, you know?"

Oh, that xD I did forget about that. Whenever. A few months later or somethibg, after they'd gotten to settle in. I'm not totally sure how well it'll work, so we don't have to..?

Asher smiled widely, dancing with her happily. "Of course we are. What would I do without you?" he agreed, "You're my everything." He stopped and spun her under his arms a few times before they started to both move around the room again.

Mmkay, you asked for it xD

--one evening, a few months later--

Asher was sat on the couch, with Lucy under his arm. They'd just finished dinner, their plates on the coffee table in front of them and the news was on. Not that Asher was particularly concentrating on that at all, with Lucy being there. Most of the time, he spent the while planting kisses to her hair, her cheek, and cuddling her closer to himself.

Oh gosh. Now I'm scared xD

Lucy's eyes were glued to the screen, although his kisses were definitely a distraction. Sometimes it was just enough to make her lose focus to the point where she would plant a couple kisses along his jawline, before turning back to the current events. She had always loved watching the news, for some reason, even when the news wasn't good.

Naw, it's just that it's probably not going to work. Not that it's a particularly happy event, either.

Asher had just settled into watching the news again when there was a knock at the door. "I'll get it," he said softly, planting another kiss on her cheek before getting off the sofa to answer the door. He almost wished he'd pretended noone was home when he opened it. A man in uniform was stood behind it. An army uniform. Two other, younger men were with him-- they looked far more pitying and solemn than their leader; he just looked stern. "Rupert Scott?" he said.

"Asher, actually. There's no Rupert here," Asher replied, seeing if he could wriggle out of it using that.

"Rupert Asher Scott, I believe. Nice try. Anyway. You know what's coming, boy. Last minute requests. You're off to Vietnam. Tomorrow."

Dx sad times!!!!

SAD TIMES

Lucy had looked over, and upon seeing the man in uniform, she knew what was going to happen. Her heart seemed to stop as she watched the sudden destruction of her dream and hopes, her eyes filling with tears. She got to her feet and was by Asher's side in a few short moments, sobbing. "No, you can't do this! I won't let you!"

Oh, definitely. Dx

"What's the point of getting me to go?" Asher protested, looking the man straight in the eyes, his own burning with hatred at the mention of him going to war. It just wasn't him at all. "I won't kill anybody. I'll be a waste of space!"

"We'll see about that when you get there.." the man replied.

Back in a bit. Dinner :)

okiday!

Lucy sobbed even more upon hearing that. "Please, you've done this to me once, don't do it again! I've died once already!" She buried her face into Asher's chest.

"Be a good guy. I'll do something else for the war effort. But don't make my girlfriend suffer again; she already lost someone she loved," Asher pleaded. Genuinely, really, he would have just gone and slugged it out, had he not met Lucy. But he couldn't leave her. Absolutely not.

"It's none of my business who your girlfriend might have lost. He would have died a hero. And, god forbid that you do, you will, too."

"A hero? Your guys are out there killing innocent people mindlessly! And even if I would be, what's a dead hero to anybody, anyway?"

The man just shrugged, and clicked his fingers. One of his right hand men got out a uniform in Asher's size and handed it to the guy, who then dumped it at Asher's feet. "She'll change her mind when she sees you in that. You'll look great, being the strong, handsome young man that you are." He started to walk away, but then stopped. He just turned his head and looked at Asher sternly, looking almost menacing. "Oh, and don't even think about not showing up."

Lucy didn't know what to do, what to say. She was in a complete state of panic at that point. She couldn't lose Asher, she couldn't let him die or get hurt. She looked up at Asher, then hid her face in his shirt, crying quietly.

Asher wrapped his arms around Lucy tightly, burying his face in her shirt, currently in a state of total disbelief. He didn't even know how to comfort her. There as no way to get out of going, and who knew what would happen to him while he was there. "I'll.. I won't.. I won't let them take me away from you. I can go to Vietnam, but I'll find a way back to you," he whispered.

Lucy suddenly withdrew. "Wait... you're against combat!" She ran out the door, and after the army officer. "Conscientious objection! Asher claims CO status! His morals prohibit him from serving in combat! He demands a meeting with the local board, to see if there isn't any other way he can serve his country." Lucy crossed her arms. "Or are you going to fight against the Supreme Court rules?"

"Fine. We'll just put him in with the engineers or something. That's perfectly fair, isn't it?" The man said, stopping, but not looking at her, which was, of course, very disrespectful of him.

"I can't fix anything, I don't know how," Asher replied.

"You'll learn, boy, you'll learn."
