As Sadie was about to reply, Prudence knocked on the door, then let herself into the room. "Sadie... there are a couple people here to see you," Prudence said quietly, a grim, nervous look on her face. "I would send them away, but.. well, it really is important that you talk to them."

Assuming it was Max and one of his friends, Sadie shot a worried glance at Brandon, then pulled herself out of bed. Checking in Cosette's room, she noted that the infant was awake, waving her arms experimentally, having a fun time on her own. So, Sadie crept in, and lifted Cosette out of her crib. She did not want Cosette being by herself, with strangers coming to the house.

She went down the stairs, then to the front doorway. But the people she saw were not the ones she had expected at all.

Mikey was standing in the doorway, along with a middle aged couple, who were looking around, amazed. When they saw Sadie, their faces changed. The man's, to complete shock, the woman's, to apologetic.

Sadie glowered. "What are you doing here? Here to critique my choices, again? Here to insult me and my family? If that's the case, you should go. I don't want to do anything rash near my daughter." She tried to close the door, but Mikey stopped her.

"Sadie... I called them. Mom and dad needed to know what was going on." He murmured, making sure they were out of earshot. "They want to make things right."

Brandon decided to pull on a t-shirt before going downstairs after Sadie. He didn't smell any hint of wolf about the place, but then, maybe he just had too much on his mind. Blaise was on the landing and murmured, "Prepare to meet the in-laws," to him. And he was certainly surprised that their guests were, in fact, Sadie's parents. He put his hands on her shoulders from behind her and tried not to look as tense as the mood surrounding everyone was.

Sadie's parents stared at Brandon, speechless.

And then Sadie's mother said, "Sadie, what have you been feeding this poor young man! He looks as pale as a ghost! Really dear, I should hope I taught you to cook better than that! He's such a handsome boy, much better than that other one, and here you go trying to kill him with bad food!" Looking at Sadie, she said, "Well, aren't you going to invite us in? It's the only polite thing to do!"

Sadie fumed, and, through her clenched teeth, said, "Fine. Come on in. We're so... happy to have you here."

Mikey gave Sadie a grateful look, leading Sadie's parents inside.

Cosette was cooing quietly to herself, chewing on the sleeve of her onesie.

Sadie, sitting beside Brandon, said to her parents, "So, Mikey says you want to patch things up with me?"

Sadie's mother said, "Well, we both agreed that we had been a little bit harsh when you first left, and then when you came back to reconcile with us. But... well, we forgive you, for what you did."

Sadie plastered a smile on her face, trying to appear gracious. "Well... thank you," she whispered, trying to concentrate on keeping Cosette comfortable.

Cosette cooed happily at Sadie, reaching up to pull at a strand of her hair.

Sadie's father gave Sadie and Brandon an apologetic look. Sadie's father wasn't much of a talker, nor was he easily upset or confrontational. Sadie took after him more.

Her mother, obviously, was another story.

Sadie said, "Me and Brandon are planning on getting married, at some point. We just... well, things have been a bit too crazy for that, with a baby on the way and everything."

Cosette squeaked up at Brandon, smiling.

Brandon looked down at Cosette, who was waving her arm at him, and smiled back at her, taking her hand in his fingers and playing with it, causing the baby to squeal with delight. He looked back up, but he wasn't really sure what to say to Sadie's parents. 'Oh, and, she does look after me, I'm naturally pale,' or, 'Yeah, Sadie didn't want to look chubby in her wedding dress,' were two he dismissed.

I'm going to watch a movie. Talk to you later =D

And then there was an awkward silence, which Sadie actually considered a rare blessing. It could easily be seen that Sadie and her mother didn't get along. She turned her attention to Cosette, smiling as the baby cooed happily. Thank goodness for the two most important people in her life.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Brandon kissed the baby's hand before saying, "She's.. She's called Cosette, by the way. And she was born just earlier today. I'm not sure if Mikey told you."

MERRY CHRISTMAS FOR YESTERDAY. xD

Sadie's dad stood up and walked over, looking extremely tentative. "May I... may I hold her?" He asked, his voice soft and husky. Sadie's voice had some of his huskiness, and it was obvious he could sing.

Sadie smiled, purring Cosette into her father's arms.

He cradled Cosette gently, humming soft songs to her.

How was your Christmas?

Brandon smiled as he watched Sadie's father with their baby-- his grandaughter. He could hardly imagine that Sadie's parents had anything in common, it didn't seem that way, that's for sure.

It was great! I had fun, I got to go see my family. I got a digital camera! =D

Sadie watched her father, remembering why she hadn't spoken to him: he had meekly followed along with her mother, not sticking up for Sadie or himself. Sadie had wanted his support with her plans to be a musician, but he had sided with her mother on the situation. That had made her furious.

He sat down, kissing her forehead. "Aren't you a little doll?" He said happily, tickling under her chin. He couldn't believe he was a grandparent. But he was thrilled, and he just wanted to be back in Sadie's life.

Awesome!

It was the first Christmas I've had in a long time where everyone was together at the same time. It was great =D

Brandon could feel that, although Sadie was smiling, there was some feeling of resentment surrounding her. He squeezed her hand, again, reassuringly, just to let her know he was there for her.

Aww! That's really nice!

I just can't believe the holiday season is almost over! D:

Sadie knew that it would be easier for her to reconcile with her father. She wanted to make things better between the two. But her mother only expected change from Sadie's end. And that was not going to happen.

Cosette squealed up at her grandfather, completely loving basking in his attention. She liked being the center of attention, and she liked being treated affectionately.

Yeah. And I got an iPod Classic and the most amazing sounding stereo in the entire world!

I know. Christmas is over, this time next week we'll be back at school. Life moves too fast D:

Brandon seemed surprised that Sadie's mother didn't seem taken by Cosette. Of course, he could see that she only thought Sadie was in the wrong, and it was tense between the two of them, but everybody loves babies, right? Particularly because it was her own grandaughter, he had expected a different reaction.

Sweet!!!!

Ugh, school. I don't want to think about it.

Sadie's mother merely watched her husband, not showing much emotion. Why? Because Sadie had made all the wrong choices. She was supposed to be studying neurology, with a boyfriend who was studying law or medicine. And she wasn't supposed to have a baby, not so soon.

I know Dx I have an exam about two weeks after I get back, too!

Brandon didn't like the silent treatment, not at all. It wasn't often he lost his temper, but he was thoroughly annoyed at that moment in time. He wanted to say something, but he didn't want to, in case Sadie didn't want him to say it.

Not fun! D:

what kind of exam?

Sadie's father said, "She's a beautiful baby. I'm very happy for the two of you." He smiled with complete sincerity. Then he said, "You'll have to let me take her on a couple of my business trips, when she gets older. That way, I could get some time with her, and show her places all around the world. If you wouldn't mind, of course." It was obvious he was completely enamored with her. "And I'll definitely try to help pay for her schooling.. if you don't mind that, either." And it was obvious that he wanted to make things right.

Maths Dx

The annoyance seeped out of Brandon in an instant, and he smiled. "It'd be wonderful for her to go with you. It's very kind of you to offer, too. Thank you," he said. "School.. Well, I mean, we're very lucky in that I'm sure we could afford it-- I saved all of my money from previous jobs and such. I can't expect you to help, I mean, it's really not necessary." Of course, he would be very grateful, but he was trying to be polite.

EW! D: Not fun at all!

Sadie said to her father, "And I have money in my savings, I'm sure it's definitely increased with interest." She didn't mention the fact that it had been originally intended for her college education. But oh well.

Her dad said, "But if you plan on having more children"--he had easily guessed they would--"I will try to do whatever I can to make sure that all of you are happy and healthy."
