He chuckled, "It was nothing, really." He squeezed her hand as they left the bar. "Seriously, though. I've heard a hell of a lot of music in my time, you could easily get signed by someone if you played in the right places. And I'm not just saying that because I'm your boyfriend," he said. "I'm sure your apartment will be just fine."

Sadie said, "Well, I'm kind of stuck here for now, so the right places are just going to have to wait." She seemed to dance when she walked, her gait very free-flowing, graceful. Or maybe it was because she was more laid back than other people walking down the street. She looked up at one of the street lamps, smiling slightly, remembering when someone else had told her almost the exact same thing. Nostalgia was a big thing for her. "Well, when we get there, you can make camp wherever you'd like. You could stay with me in my room, if you'd like, or you could sleep on the couch, or maybe in the bathroom. One of my old roomies slept there for a night, she told me all about it."

"I'll help you redecorate sometime, if you like," Brandon offered, watching her with a wide smile platered across his face. As far as he was concerned, she could have been a vampire with that sort of grace. "And I'll sleep wherever you're comfortable with me sleeping. It's your house."

Sadie grinned. "Thanks. I'd really appreciate that." She walked up to an older looking apartment building. It had a very bohemian, maybe even hippy, feel to it, and you could see some of the people in their apartments, with their shawls, and flower boxes outside the windows, playing music, or singing, or dancing. She went inside, then started climbing up the stairs to get to her apartment. Occasionally, someone would pass by, saying hello to Sadie, sometimes in English, other times in other languages.

"No problem." Brandon followed, regarding those that past with a smile and a nod of his head. It honestly didn't think it looked bad at all here, especially compared to where his vampire family were living at the moment- they'd had to relocate temporarily for a number of different reasons.

When Sadie arrived at her apartment door, she stopped suddenly, dropping her bags. She went and put her ear on the door. Music. A familiar voice... no, voices. She yanked the door open, seeing as it was unlocked, and darted inside.

There was a group of people inside, no more than 6 or 7. And, standing in the middle, was a guy with a wrinkled button down shirt, tattered jeans, and a green beret. A military beret.

"Mikey! You're back!" Sadie cried, running up to the guy and throwing her arms around him. She started kissing his cheeks, his forehead.

"Sadie... yeah, I'm back. And I think I'm here to stay. Now quit it, you'd think I came back from the dead!"

The others laughed, coming over to hug Sadie. Then they noticed Brandon. They went quiet, looking at Sadie for an answer.

"Guys, this is my boyfriend, Brandon. Brandon, meet Mikey, Lucy, Prudence, Jude, Hemlock, Max, and Scotty." Sadie said, smiling.

Mikey came up to Brandon and threw an arm around his shoulders. "Well, if Sadie sees something in you, I'm sure you'll get along great with the rest of us!"

Sadie smiled up at Mikey, messing with his beret.

Mikey laughed, "Quit it, sis! Geez!" He swatted at her hands playfully.

Sadie said, "Just because you're older doesn't mean you can tell me what to do!" She laughed and grabbed his beret, throwing it to Lucy.

Lucy ran from Mikey, laughing.

Sadie said, "Besides Mikey, they're in a big protest group, trying to fight for justice, and equality, and a better society."

Brandon wasn't used to this kind of introduction. He usually liked to find out about a person by flicking through their thoughts and memories in their head as if they were an open book. He was making himself stop doing that, he didn't like intruding on Sadie's thoughts, and so, for similar reasons, he didn't want to listen to anyone else's in the room. He smiled as he watched them toss around Mikey's beret. Fun, simple.. Normal family stuff like this just didn't happen in his house.

Mikey eventually got his beret back, and he chuckled. He put an arm around Sadie, grinning down at her. "So, have mom and dad called recently, begging you to go home?"

Sadie said, "Surprisingly, no. They just wanted to see if I was okay, and to rag on me about the life I choose to live."

Jude laughed, wrapping his arms around Lucy. "Parents, huh?"

Prudence held hands with a young woman who had just come out of the bathroom, named Rita.

Brandon stood and suddenly felt a little uncomfortable again. Of course, everyone here knew each other, and he had no idea how to put himself in the conversation. It didn't help that it was a whole room full of humans, either..

"Do you sparkle in the sunlight?" Rita asked Brandon, tilting her head.

Mikey turned to Sadie, his face showing surprise. "He's a vampire?"

"I knew it!" Hemlock said. "I could totally tell by the vibes he was giving off! Duuuude...."

Sadie chuckled. "Yeah, yeah, guys, he's a vampire."

Prudence grinned, showing off fangs of her own. "Well, it looks like I'm not the only leech here, then!"

Brandon smiled at that, exposing the top row of his teeth, the canines of which were pointed into fangs the same as Prudence's. "Only a little bit. It's not particularly masculine, unfortunately," he laughed at that. "But we're all different. Some of my 'brothers and sisters'"- he actually made the inverted comma signs with his fingers as he said that-" say can't go out in the sunlight because they sparkle quite a lot. It's stupid hiding it, though, now that I think about it. People around here know we exist."

Prudence said, "Nothing happens to me when I go out into the sunlight."

"That's cause you're Asian!" Jude said, laughing.

Prudence took off her flip flop and threw it at him.

Max yawned, scratching behind his ear. "Max is our resident werewolf," Lucy explained. "And my big brother. But I didn't get the whole werewolf gene, thing. It skipped me."

"Well, the two that do sparkle a lot are basically albinos, so that could explain it. I just sort of.. Give off a healthy looking glow." Brandon laughed and then looked at Max. "Yeah.. No offense intended, but I thought you smelled kind of different. Not bad, just different."

Max shrugged, "Ah, none taken! You smell kinda different yourself, so we're even." He got up and went to grab a beer from the cooler the gang had brought with them.

Sadie was relieved that everyone got along so well.

Brandon smiled. He always laughed when people made the assumption that werewolfs and vampires hated the smell of each other- or just hated each other in general. He'd never met a werewolf that he didn't like.

Mikey looked down and saw Sadie's guitar. "Hey! you still have it!" He said, picking it up and strumming the strings. "I was afraid you might have lost it when you moved out of mom and dad's!"

Sadie said, "I take it with me everywhere! It's probably my prize possesion. Besides, it helps me stay alive." She sat down on a rug, sitting with her legs criss cross apple sauce, looking very much like a hippie.

Sadie smiled up at Brandon, her face filled with happiness and gratitude. She reached up to take his hand, pulling him down beside her.

Mikey improvised a song, and it didn't sound half bad, seeing as he hadn't played for a long time.
