Just a question KF- then why did Jesus have to die?
Okay, right away I want to say that I do NOT know very much about Christianity, and I admit that. I know more about the other stuff I believe in, so I immediately apologize if in any way this post is confusing, offensive, or stupid. =]
I think Jesus had to die for our sins, yes, but I want to leave hell out of this whole post. Because I'm not talking about hell here. I'm trying to talk about how you can still be a good person who deserves heaven even if you don't believe in God. It's just logical. I know people have explained this to me before when I have asked this question in other religious topics on TT, but I STILL don't understand: If God is so loving, so perfect, and He doesn't sin, then why is there hell? Certainly sending someone to a burning place of torture because they don't believe in you is sinning. How can God be perfect and all-loving if he has to send people to hell? It just doesn't make sense to me, and I'm sorry if that seems ignorant. But hell is such a horrible punishment. Honestly....I can't imagine ANYONE who deserves that, let alone someone who, although they do not believe in God and Jesus, is a good, honest, kind, loving person. Like I said before, in my opinion, the people who are truly evil CHOOSE not to be loved, they aren't "banished to hell." Even though they know their last life was a disaster, and God tries to tell them to go to heaven, they sometimes refuse and go back to Earth to start a new life that was just as horrible as the last. It's basically their choice, and I don't think it is so much a matter of believing in God as knowing love. I do believe God is perfect, loving, forgiving, and never sins. That is why I do not believe in hell. Going back to "choices" - some people might say that choosing to believe in God is also a choice that affects what happens when you die. See, I don't think that AT ALL. I'm sure there are some truly evil people out there who believed in God, but when it was thier time to die, they realized they didn't even know what love was...and didn't want to be with God. I can EASILY see how some people don't believe in God. Some people are naturally skeptical and don't find it convincing. I don't think that's a sin, even. It's a personal choice, and everyone here who was brave enough to admit they had a different religion in a public place, I'm very proud of you. Nobody likes having people shove religion down thier throat. Next time anyone here is trying to tell someone that they are wrong....think about yourself. Think about something you absolutely DO NOT believe in. Take me, for example. I don't believe in Santa Claus.
What if a bunch of people who weren't, say, four years old, started telling you you were evil and awful and horrible and making the wrong decision and trying to make you change your mind because you don't believe in Santa Claus? Wouldn't that be annoying? Wouldn't you hate that? I just hate, hate, hate how some religions think they are better than others. I'm not just talking about Christianity, I'm talking about pretty much every religion. Saying "I'm right and you're wrong" doesn't get us anywhere. It just makes others angry or hurt.
One last thing: I never have really understood the whole "Jesus dying on the cross" thing. I mean, I do believe in Jesus and that he died for us, but I don't really get the whole thing about sins, I just don't understand it. If someone could try to explain it to me, I would be very appreciative. ^^
Whew! Sorry for the huuuge post - and sorry if it doesn't make sense or is kind of stupid. tamaw/pants is the religion expert here, not me.
