Damien nodded. "Are you going to keep pushing me away?" he asked, not wanting to bring up the parent topic.

"Maybe you shouldn't..." Damien said softly. "I did that too, and look where it got me. A lonely vampire who's fallen for a girl with no interest in him." He sighed.

"If people don't like me, I don't get attached, and I don't get hurt. Simple."

"Well I like you..." Damien said quietly. "What are you afraid of, being hurt?"

"Well, yeah, I guess." Jessica shrugged, not looking at Damien. "But I've learnt that getting attached to people hurts. A lot."

"Care to explain? What happened that makes you feel this way?" Damien asked.

"Basically, my real parents." Jessica shrugged. "I never knew them. Heard they were nuts. But yeah, I grew obsessed with trying to find them..." she sighed. "No luck."

"Oh... why?" Something was niggling in the back of Jessica's mind, but she refused to listen right now.

"When I was turned into a vampire, I didn't want to drink blood. I didn't want anyone to know. I refused to drink for about a week, but the pain and the hunger got the best of me. I sucked them dry..." Damien explained.

"Oh..." Jessica looked down, shuffling awkwardly. "But yeah, I'm adopted. It doesn't really bother me anymore."

Damien decided to change the topic, as it was getting a little awkward. "So how are you feeling?"

"Mixed emotions." Damien said, also with a smirk. He then started to laugh.

"Is that so?" Jessica said, before getting to her feet. "Got any human food in?"

"Not really, but we could order something." Damien told her. "What do you want?"

"Sure." Damien said, dialing a number and ordering some pizza. "You want any toppings?"
