Sakura nodded. "Alright... We can get one cake, a few éclairs, and a one or two other pastries." She walked into the elevator, waiting for L to come in so she could press the ground floor button.

Mello turned back to look at Matt. "Yeah?"

 

[.chasm.]

"Is that it?" L asked, staring at Sakura with wide eyes as he walked into the elevator. "Can't we get anything else?"

Matt grinned, lying back on the sofa and closing his eyes. "You look like a girl."

 

[nokotchi]

Sakura shook her head, pressing the button and watching the doors close.

Mello growled and clenched his fists. "I'll let Sakura just kick his a** when she comes back...."

L stopped dead, staring at Sakura. "Why not? We have enough money. We have enough money for hundreds of cakes." He paused, then tilted his head. "Can we do that instead?"

 

[nokotchi]

Sakura shook her head once more. "We need the money for other things, don't we? We can't spend it all on cake." she explained, leaning back on the railing that circled the elevator.

"We have all of Watari's money," L said, lifting his hand to his mouth again. "We could chuck most of it off the roof and still have enough to buy a house."

 

[nokotchi]

Sakura sighed. "We'll get a few cakes or none at all. Pick." She stepped out of the elevator when the doors opened and glanced back at L.

L looked down, chewing on his thumb. "That's unfair." He stared up at Sakura, tilting his head. "Fine."

 

[nokotchi]

Sakura smiled and held her hand out for L to hold, if he wanted to.

 

[.chasm.]

L stared down at Sakura's hand, tilting his head to the other side. "Yes?" he asked, still chewing his thumb.

 

[nokotchi]

Sakura held her hand out farther for L. "Do you want to hold hands?"

 

[.chasm.]

L continued to stare at Sakura's hand, pulling his own away from his mouth again. "What?"

 

[nokotchi]

Sakura reached forward and gently grabbed L's hand. "You know, hold hands."

 

[.chasm.]

L stared at his own hand in Sakura's. "Oh. Okay. If we can get more cake." He looked up at Sakura with wide eyes.

Sakura rolled her eyes. "We can get two cakes at most. We already have a good five cakes here."

L tilted his head, shuffling closer to Sakura. "That's not very many, though," he said, staring at her.

 

[nokotchi]

Sakura began heading for the door. "It's plenty."

 

[.chasm.]

l followed Sakura, draggig his feet across the floor. "Can we get strawberries on the cakes we get, then?"

 

[nokotchi]

Sakura nodded and smiled, looking back at L and holding the door open. "Sure, why not?"

L hurried up a bit when Sakura said this, now walking beside her. "Good." He tilted his head. "I wonder if Matsuda's fainted again yet."
