Scottie said, "Can do. She's looking for a job as a musician as well, actually. She's awesome, to say the least." He put the paper in the register as well.

Sadie said to Brandon, "You're lucky to have a big family. Back home, when it was just my mother, father, Mikey, and I.... well, things weren't always... great. To put it mildly."
"The family is even bigger.." Brandon said. "But We don't all live in the same place right now, I'll put it that way for the moment.."

At that point, everyone seemed to look a little saddened-- except for Ysi, who didn't understand what was going on.

"Still," he continued, "It is nice with all of us here right now."

Sadie looked at the faces around her, slightly confused by their saddened expressions. Then, very carefully, she took one of Brandon's hands in her free hand.

Scottie realized that the woman hadn't payed. Not that it mattered. She'd only taken a sip of the drink.

Brandon squeezed it gently, and then lead her over to the armchair-- there were no spaces left on the couches, she he pulled her into his lap and they sat.

"I came to the bar last night because I was.. Upset, depressed. We all are right now, to tell you the truth."

"Family breakdown," Blaise continued. "Just a silly little fight started about a disagreement between those of us who, for the most part, wouldn't mind exposing ourselves as vampires and already have, and those who wish to keep our identity a secret."

"See, our family is very important, and as far as reputation is concerned, those who wish to keep away from too much human contact are the ones after power and money." Kyle said.

"It was so very stupid at the time. But now my wife and I are separate-- for the time being, and it all got rather violent, and more personal fights got involved." Evander finished the story.

"Well... at least you all are being mature about what happened. When my family and I disagreed... well, I ran. And I haven't looked back since. At least you are trying to make things better. I just ended up ditching things altogether."

Scotte blinked, staring at the girl with confusion. "Um... wait. I haven't seen you before."

"That's on the surface. You've given us a reason to be happy, and to feel together like a family again today, Sadie. And we're trying to make sure you don't get wrapped up in this, because it's worse underneath." Evander said solemnly.

Sadie nodded gently, and said, "I'm sorry for everything that's happened. I know... it would probably be better for your family if I hadn't become..involved with Brandon." Before giving her boyfriend a chance to reply, she said, "Hear me out. I mean, having a human who isn't in the know suddenly thrown into the mix... that can't help tensions at all."

"Brandon needs you, I can see that," an new voice said, coming from the doorway.

Evangeline-- a fairly tall girl with black, pixie cut hair and blue eyes; not anywhere near as vibrant as Brandon's, but a sort of sky blue colour leaned against the frame with her arms folded, smiling crookedly. It was funny, her and Brandon really did look like brother and sister, despite not being at all related. "And you're not making things worse. Better, in fact, if they can realise just how important it is to talk to humans. After all, Brandon never would have found his soulmate had he not."

Sadie's cheeks reddened at the word soulmate. Now, she was not easily embarrassed, not in the least. She looked at Brandon, then at the rest of the family, then back at Evangeline. "Well..." She didn't really know what to say. When she got embarrassed, she wasn't eloquent at all.

"So she definitely is..?" Evander asked, having been curious to know what Evangeline's judgement would be on this.

"Absolutely, I can just see it.."

Brandon smiled at Sadie, chuckling at the red in her cheeks. "I knew it!"

Sadie idly started braiding Ysi's hair, the blush in her cheeks deepening. Then she looked at Brandon and said, "I told you I had been rethinking my cynical outlook." She smiled crookedly at him, and she didn't feel nearly as embarrassed.

I don't know what causes sleeptalking, I often do it anyway S:

"Well, that's wonderful!" Evander said, grinning. "You're the first one of the next generation so far, Brandon."

In unison, everyone cheered, and grinned at the couple.

Sadie said to Brandon, "So... are you and I a big deal or something?" She wanted to learn more about this family, why they did what they did, what made them happy, what not to do around them, etc.

"Finding a soulmate is incredibly important for vampires, a good cause for celebration."

"Welcome to the family, Sadie," Evander said, a rather informal way of giving a sort of father's blessing.

"We're all easy here, we already like you-- especially Ysi, by the looks of things--, so honestly, you don't have to try hard to impress us or-- with others in the past "prove you're worthy" and all that."

"See, we all love you here," Brandon kissed her cheek.

Sadie smiled and briefly kissed Brandon's lips, then went back to braiding Ysi's hair. "Ysi, your hair is so pretty!" She then pulled a piece of ribbon from her pocket, and tied the end of the braid with it.

"She's gorgeous, isn't she?" Brandon sighed contently.

"Thanks, Deedee!" Ysi clapped her little hands together happily. "Yours is all dark like Uncle B's, I like it!"

The rest of the vampires watched-- each silent, and each smiling broadly.

"Is Sadie going to stay with us?" Blaise chimed in after a while. "She's very welcome here, you know." And suddenly all eyes, curious and expectant, were on Sadie.

I'm off now! Talk to you tomorrow =D
