"No, that'll be fine..." Damien told her. "We won't cause any trouble; I mean, do I ever?" he said with a smirk. "Now go run to your little boyfriend and I'll see you at the trial."
"Sarcastic as ever, I see." Scarlett said, taking hold of Faylinn's arm and pulling her away. "And no, we'll keep you apart. Unlike you, the witness isn't at risk of being executed." She grinned. "Brutally."
After Scarlett had locked Faylinn in another room she went back downstairs to Rain. "It was Damien. He says he's here to finish the council off once and for all."
"Indeed, but we have to get him to the trial first." Scarlett pointed out. "I doubt he'll allow us to restrain him and temporarily shut off his powers."
Scarlett laughed, wrapping her arms around Rain's neck. "Always one step ahead. What about the girl? Do her 'powers' need shutting off? I hardly think she's a threat."
"Poor darling. I briefly read her mind, she's very confused. It was Damien who changed her, and she has no idea what to think anymore." She paused. "Although she was mainly thinking about someone called Ember."
