WHAT IS UP WITH LABELS!?

Honestly. You guys are actually making me rant which I barely ever do unless something is really ticking me off. I'm absolutly sick of hearing "do u think ur cool or lame?" or "r u a punk or a goth?" For crying out loud, get a life. Labels are for cans, and quite frankly WE ARE NOT CANS. I am a person named Stephanie. Stephanie is my label, and my only label.

Let's start with the basics....

People have different ideas of what "goth" or "emo" or whatever, should look like or act like. I may think that goth is when somebody dresses in all black and acts totally quiet, but to soembody else a goth might be somebody who wears black lipstick! Its a matter of what you think. Thats why I don't understand when people give labels over the internet when all they know about the person is their words in typing.

Labels are immature and just show how dumb a person truly is. You cannot put a name on a person because of thE way they act, think, feel, or look. Just like in my class, if I suddenly come to school one day with lipgloss on they'll automatically think I turned into a "girly-girl" over night. Thats what I'm gonna talk about next...

GIRLY-GIRLS AND TOMBOYS.

For godsake, there is no such thing. I think all of you who label yourself or otehrs these are super immature.

There is not a certain way boys are supposed to act, and vice-versa. Just because a girl likes sports, doesn't mean shes a tom-boy. Oh, is it against the rule for girls to like sports without being labeled? Vise-versa. It's old fashion and stupid, in MHO.

TOPICS

I truly hate topics that ask, "What are you? A girly-girl or tom-boy?" or "are you popular or geeky?" or something along that line. SERIOUSLY, you're literally asking people to label themselves. Besides, over the internet you can lie and say your the most popular girl in school even though you might actually get made fun of everyday. It's not cool to label yourself in general, but on the internet it's just AWFUL.

ON THE OTHER HAND....

I feel like too many topics are filled with, "I don't need a label. I am me." I totally agree with this, but it makes the topic drag on. Instead of havign a whole topic filled with this:

"I am Me. Cans have labels, not me."

"I am a human being. Labels are for cans."

"I am Chelsea! Thats who I am."

blahblahblah.....

You should have this....

"Cans have labels, not people."

"Yes, I agree."

"I must agree with her too."

ect.ect.

When you repeat the same thing over and over, your point of view has already been stated and understood. If you continue to say it, your usually just trying to get others to agree so you'll feel more powerful and wise. Of course, this is not always the case. :D

THEREFORE....

I will not give a label to myself or others. I will not be labeled just because of the way I choose to look, feel, think, or act. I will not change myself just to achieve a different label. I will not stand back and let others put labels on me. We aren't cans, so why do we continue to give labels and reseive them? Someday I hope mankind can look past the outside of people, and to stop labelling them. The last time I checked, I wasn't a can. So quit labeling me.

I agree, but we're in a society filled with morons. Labels will never die out, no matter how much we want them to.
That's so true.

We can make some people in this world have some common sense, but others will always refuse, which is quite sad to think. Labels will never seem to stop, no matter where we go.

Everyone makes a mistake atleast 1ce in there lifetime!I used to label my self.I'm srry about it now and i'm regreting it it was wrong and I have to admit i am a punk but who gives a crap!!!!!!!!If we label our selfs it makes us idiots(no offense to the people who do label them selves)i mean we r who we r so if some guy says ur ugly and crap don't change who u r!Be who u wanna be.If u go back one day and say i regret that i labeled myself when I was younger and I wanna say i'm srry for that!

~KK~

I agree, but the world is still gonna put a label on you no matter what, school, work, or even just on the streets. Society is like that and I don't think it is ever going to stop.

Exactly.

Labels, well, I have to say.. Immature, and younger people do label themselves. They have cliques of "perps" and "punks" Sure its stupid, but we can't demand for them to stop. Sure we can rant and rave over it, but are they gonna stop? No. At some point in our lives we all do. You have to admit. SO as they grow, they relize, "Why in the heck am I labeling? I sound like I'm in elementary school!" So yeah, we all come to realize. We just have to live with it.

Punks, Preps, or Whatever!!

We all act one way, wether it goes with how others act, we are only supposed to be labeled by what our parents named us. Say I saw TG_D (not picking on you, just using you as an example!) I'd say, "Hey, It's Stephanie!" not, "Hey, its that prep!" (not saying your a prep, just went with something that came in mind. ;) )

I hope you understand my rant agreeing with your rant. ;)

No more rants please. I know what happens when you have complaints in a forum, and it's not pretty in the least bit. I know people have a right to talk about whatever they want, but think about it; TONS of stuff is going too far. "I hate anime it's lame!" ...etc.. People should really just not complain on a forum like this, even if it is educated. It is easier and less flame-baiting to simply phrase your posts a bit differently, instead of ways of ranting and complaining.

I know that this is a bit off topic as my main point, too. But seriously, it's not a conversation if all everyone is doing is nodding and smiling at you.

ALSO, stop using "you" and "they." It's your society too, stop acting like you're on your high horse and looks from above and understands everything. "Only the man who thinks he knows everything is truely blind" Hn. That might make a good siggy quote too...

(If you can't tell, complaints make me irratable. If you think I'm the only one..)

ALSOALSO, talking about it more just keeps bringing it up. If you don't like it, don't read it and don't keep talking about it. The problem goes away if you let it heal, and people are effectively bashing that one person.

i agree with some of what your saying ...but like i said some not are ....but...in my siggy ...one of the quotes ending ...i am me i am my own person or whatev er is true

I agree.

I don't believe that I've ever labelled myself. People can label me all they want but really, It's pathetic.

I'm not a can, I'm a human and I don't need labels because I like me the way I am and so should everyone.

Thanks for your opinion Pyonchit. You are very wise, and there is no use in me fighting your opinion. I totally understand and respect what your saying.

Yet, I was a bit offended when you said "stop acting like you're on your high horse and looks from above and udnerstands everything". I never said I udnerstand everything, now did I? When you have to pick on other peoples rants, try using nicer words. I thought you had a great comeback to what I was saying, but people won't respct you if you keep turning them down.

((Not to be rude or stick my nose in, but do you EVER have something good to say about rants? o_O))

I think the topics about are you "goth" "girly-girl" etc. are to see what personality most tamatalk members have. I really don't think they mean to hurt anyone. Though sometimes they do. :'( But if you ever come across a topic like that you can talk to a guide about it. I don't understand ranting never did. ;)

I never have anything good to say about rants... :D

They usually provoke bickering on the forums and are too often used to re-inforce a person's sense of self-importance.

Some ppl like to be part of a group - it feels nice to belong... and if they want to label themselves it's not immature, it's just the way they are....

Some ppl decide that they don't want to be the same as everyone else and look to promote what differentiates them from others, it doesn't make them better than anyone else, it's just the way they are....

However, I wholeheartedly agree with the advice that every member should make an effort to use polite (nicer) words when directing gentle criticism at someone else - and they should follow their own advice too :)

'Nuff Said I think.

Keeping an eye on this topic.... no flaming or snide remarks please ;)

I guess you should feel relieved. I wasn't talking directly to you, more of this high-horseishness that I am feeling. Using words like "you" or "they" as a general term to describe everybody but yourself.. I dislike.

"((Not to be rude or stick my nose in, but do you EVER have something good to say about rants? o_O))"

No. See, besides tamatalk, I go on this Deviantart forum called "complaints." I know what makes a GOOD complaint, and that does not equal ranting.

1. Ranting only makes you feel better if people agree. You know that's all it does. It does not make anything better, doesn't stop things from happening, just provokes conversation, good or bad..

2. I think we've seen enough "Labels are for soup cans", thank you. We know! You say this to make a point. But you still say it when five or six other people have already stated it in the SAME TOPIC.

3. I think people can decide for themselves to label themselves or others, wether others like it or not.. It's their choice, even if we do think it is immature. We can't stop that. At one point and time, we were all labeled, good or bad, doesn't really matter. We were. We've all atleast labeled ourselves something at one point at time. That's the past. We can make our own choices. Some people don't mind being labeled, some even want to be labeled, and then again a lot don't. But show a little respect for others' opinions anyway, eh?

4. As for 'tom-boy', 'girly-girl', 'emo', 'punk', etc... We all have different views of these mean. Mostly, things like this posted here are only meant for conversation. Going with my #2 point, they aren't there for you to bombard them with "Labels are for soup cans", "I don't label myself", etc..

5. We have names. We don't have to label ourselves. But sometimes we have to put up with people labeling us. It's as simple as that. Don't freak out.. It only makes things worse. If they label you something so terrible (A 'bad word', something extremely offencing), Adults are there (I say "Adults", as in refering to kids, because more than half of the pertentage of people who 'label', are in public schools).

Okay. Hopefully, nobody took offence... Because it wasn't meant. Just getting well thought-out points across.

LATER EDIT: When I used 'you', I didn't directly mean anybody in particular. I used 'you' as a form of speaking to everyone who reads it. I didn't mean my words to be hurtful to anyone, but It seems some may have taken offence. D= So I'd like too apologize for that too....

I deleted this post because I think I was too overreacting. And I might have said some hurtful things as well....so I apoligize Skippy~Tama.

labels are pointless.... what's the point of dividing ourselfs into a group for no apparent reason?! It excludes you from people in other cliques, and makes your friends more limited....

No matter how hard we try, the morons won't stop making labels. So far I am considered a Pyschopath -.- One reason why I wish there was no labels
