Kimiko blinked in the morning sun. She thought she had caught just the breifest glimmer of someone sparkly jumping off the roof across the street. The very first thing that popped into her mind was
Edward Cullen. But she shook her head and called herself stupid.
There's no Edward Cullen. And there's no one on Earth as freakish as me.
So Kimi walked home alone as usual. She had been very careful to stay away from friends ever since she was five. She knew about blood, and blood had water in it, and she didn't want to hurt her friends. So she settled for not having any. It was for their own safety. What if she had a bad day, flicked her wrist, and her friend's skull exploded? What if she was overly emotional and cried, and her friend cried all the blood out of her body?
No, normal people were best to avoid, when a random person jumped out of the bush.
Rei very silently watched her prey, hidden from view by a large bush. As her target came into the perfect position, she leapt from her hiding place onto the sidewalk.
"Hi there. I'm Rei."
The other girl blinked. "Stay away from me, for your own good."
"Really now, does that work on everyone? It's not working on me."
"I don't want to hurt you. If you don't stay away from me you'll regret it."
Tough chick. Must have some pretty wicked powers.
"Really. THe least I can do is walk you home."
"I had a really bad day and I don't want to accidentally kill you, so go away before I call the police and have you arrested for stalking."
Rei sighed in exasporation. This Kimi girl was unfriendly enough for two. And killing powers? Wicked awesome! "Your powers are cool."
Whatever the girl had been expecting, it wasn't that. She froze on the sidewalk, glared into Rei's dark eyes, and said sharply "I don't have magic powers."
"Of course you do. Here, give me an old sheet of paper and a water bottle." Rei planned to light the paper on fire, and have it grow out of control, until the girl would be forced to stretch the water in the bottle to put it out.
"No."
"Okay, here." Rei pulled out her own paper and water bottle. "Watch this." She tapped her finger twice on the paper, and it abruptly burst into flames.
"What are you doing?! Don't let anyone see you do that! Especially not in public!"
"If you think a flaming paper isn't something you leave on a sidewalk, put it out. I think it's fine the way it is."
"I-you-I can't believe you!" the girl shrieked, snatching the water bottle from Rei's hands. By now the fire had reached the grass on the edge of the sidewalk, and someone's house was in danger of burning down. There was no way the water in the bottle could put it out.
The blue girl concentrated a lot, and what looked like a water snake flew from the bottle, stretching and growing. She coiled it around and around. until it was a huge watery disc over the house, and end still trailing from the water bottle. Then she dropped her hands limply at her side, and the water crashed down, killing the flames and drenching both of them in water.
Kimi the blue girl smirked at her. "Water beats fire, every time."
