Scarlet called the house phone. She figured he probably was out doing something, so she left a message:
"Dafret... it's me. I... I want to work things out. I want to be able to trust you again. Please... just... call me when you get this message. I love you."
She hung up and sighed, feeling like she was weak. Foolish.
"Why are you going back to him?" Her father asked. "He betrayed you! I mean... look, I have lots of younger friends who would treat you with the respect you deserve!" He looked like he had done something wrong. He looked guilty.
"Dad, I love him. I just can't--"
At that moment, a tall, handsome guy barged into the room, and pulled Scarlet into a hug. "I wa so worried about you! Did he hit you? Where are your children? I'm dying to meet them!"
Scarlet gaped up at him. "Leon!? I haven't seen you since high school! What are you doing here???"
"Your father called me."
Abraham shrugged and smiled sheepishly. He had hoped that maybe his daughter would move on.
Of course, she didn't plan on it.
