I have the same problem ever since something happened. I'm afraid of drowning and I'm not good at swimming. Just don't care what the other girls think. Everyone has a phobia. I bet the other girls have a phobia that's embaressing to them too.

Just tell your close friends you can't swim and I am sure that if they are really your friends, they will stay with you in the shallow end. Don't be ashamed of the fact that you can't swim either. You will learn. For the longest time one of my best friends couldn't ride a bike, so I taught her and she was never ashamed.

It is your friend you want to see on her big day, right? Now about that water in your nose, you can buy nose plugs, they are a string witha small clamp on the end and you put the clamp on the bridge(top part) of your nose. Your friend should be happy you are there and won't care about a silly thing like a life-Jacket.

take the flipping life jacket. Would you rather drown in a pool, not go to the birthday party and upset your friend, or wear your life jacket go to the party and embarass yourself? I would choose the last one. I am in sixth grade and I have learned that popularity is the least thing important in the world. I would do things differently so I would not do everything like the popular people. If they make fun of you, well live with it and ignore it. From what I'm hearing you are to chicken to put a life jacket on in front of people. If they make fun of you, fine. Just ignore it. They will not be worth your time if they do that. True friends will not make fun of you if you can't swim. I didn't learn to swim until I was in fourth grade. I just stayed by the shallow part of the pool and dunked my head a few times. If you think that popularity is important in fourth grade then in sixth grade you will think it's the most important thing in the world. So I suggest going with your life jacket and enjoy the party. If anybody goes up to you and asks you why you are wearing that just say because you can't swim. If they make fun of you, call your parents to pick you up.
