You get called n00b if your annoying in Chat.
If your on eof the people they call a n00b I suppose your annoying.
Fine, but instead of just ignoring the person and getting a guide some just prefer to give the new person a hard time. I agree with Aubrey on this one, the clique behaviour's something to stop, this is true.

Just curious, who was it that editted my post? Cause the thing I said was said by the actual person in another topic, so I didnt think that repeating it would cause a problem lol I can give you the link to the topic too!

I think the TC members need a reality check. Alot of the people in there seem to think that its ok to say the things they say because "well, I know suchandsuch a guide and they wont ban me for it" but they dont seem to understand that when on this site, your job comes first if you are in that position. Name calling needs to stop, fighting needs to stop, drama needs to stop. Unfortunately, if it were that easy then there wouldnt even be a topic about this lol. So its something that needs to be worked on. I will suggest it when I go in TC here in a few minutes.

The way I see it is that every time someone comes in, if they aren't familiar with the site and haven't made friends with ALL of the clique, they are ignored by everyone. If they act their age, which in some cases would be childish/random they are instantly called a "n00b". I have also heard people from that clique say--"Your going on the n00b list" to various members, making them feel unwanted and uncared for. Not only the name calling is done, but many of the members type sexual/perverted things which may make some members feel uncomfortable including me which causes me to leave the room because of their disgusting conversation. Oh.. yes I almost forgot -.- , apparently they feel that they can curse/cuss whenever they feel like it..

I'm sure that pretty soon, i'll have all I can handle. ^_^

There are some people who come directly to mind when I think of the world n00b, as they are always calling someone a n00b or putting someone down in one way or the other, especially on TamaChat.

I agree with TL, in TC there are a lot of cliques. And a lot of the cliques are can be very rude. The reason that they usually call someone else a n00b is because they obviously find them annoying, in being they don't want someone that's new or not their buddy in TC. So it annoys the members of the, "clique," that there are other people reading their convo & trying to join in. TC is a public chat room, open to the tens of thousands of members of TamaTalk. I go into TC to meet new people & directly connect with members. If you want to just talk to your close friends, go somewhere else. AIM Chat rooms or wonderful, or start your own forum with chat.

If you are called a n00b, just be like, "You know what? Maybe you think I'm a n00b. Maybe I am a n00b. But at least I don't stoop low enough to put someone down just so I can feel better."

Let me rephrase my post:

TC is cliched, but the problem is, I AM part of that cliche. Quite a few of them are unfair towards new members who do act normally. But, the thing is, a lot of them are nice. If you come in at a time they're having an all-out war with a n00b and try to help the so-called 'n00b' you will probably be put to hell. Wait until things are calm, then approach.

Act mature, or else they'll kill you. Seriously. But for some reason, they took to me right away. Dunno why.

Yeah, sometimes members come in and try to talk about tamas, and everyone there is like, "I hate tamas," and the person is excluded because they aren't given a second chance to join in the conversation.

And if someone types poorly. It's annoying, sure, but you don't have to get all upset about it.

Also... if one person starts to attack someone, then EVERYBODY'S teaming up on the person, and they get really upset. And when they apologize, everyone's still attacking them. It makes me upset too, 'cause they seem genuinely sorry, and nobody in there care.

I'll only call someone a noob if they act like one. That's it. If they type funny, it doesn't matter to me. It's the way they act that matters.

PS: I'm the same as Zip's post, I'm afraid. But, it is true.

That gets annoying when people call other people n00bs. I;m just chatting with someone, minding my own business then SOMEBODY says "Shut up Pikachu Lover you stupid n00b"
Not to sound like a petty case. But I'm sorry that that happened! I don't go on TC because it won't let me. :D I downloaded java and it still won't let me in! :D Could anyone tell me how to get to post in there?

I can't tell if I'm part of the, "clique," or not. Some days I think I'm in, somedays I'm not. -.-

omg, in maplestory, "noob" seems to be the new big thing. I think it's just dorky. When people call me that I call them more mature *swear* words.

I would disagree. Older members who think their holier than thou I see them called more as just troublesome like the rest of the pesty bunch :) But in most cases those kind you are possibly speak of don't usually become regulars on an online community for long since they're usually dealt with ;) A troll is a troll is a troll.
Just sayin'
I've seen a few cases (though I can't remember where) when members who were veterans at the forum say they didn't like it anymore because the "n00bs were taking over" so that just proves to me that they think they're great because they know everything about the site, etc instead of providing helpful advice and guidance to the so called "n00bs". (and i'm quite aware that was a run on sentence)

I agree completely. O__O

It really makes me angry when people are bullies to new members for no reason. It's like, if you were new, wouldn't you just want to feel WELCOMED instead of being called 'n00b' over and over again?

And it really makes me sad about how people judge people by the way they TYPE. Some people use txt tlk. GET OVER IT. It's the way they type, it's not your problem. If you think it's annoying just BLOCK THEM. It's that easy. If you make a big deal about how someone types, then you're just immature. ;(

Txt tlk is just an easy way to communicate, and although the majority of members on TamaTalk don't use it, it doesn't mean people should be rude to those who do.

And when people ask new people their age...oh my gosh. If the member is kind of young, one of the existing members usually comments about how they're too young to be on a chatroom and everyone joins in and eventually starts totally making fun of the new member for no reason. Yeah, that's just gross.

And if the new member claims to be over 15, no one believes them and starts making fun of them. It doesn't make sense!

And yes, some of them MAY be lying about they're age, but that's because they're insecure. How would you feel if you were new to a place, and everyone was chatting about some inside joke, and you didn't get it AND people were making fun of you at the same time? Yeah, kinda sucks, doesn't it?

And some new people spam, okay. And yes, it's annoying. But they're NEW. They probably don't know the rules. And instead of totally yelling and screaming at them, just tell them sternly to stop. It works way better, trust me.

Yeah, sorry guys ^__^; But that was my little shpeel, because this has been totally bugging me for a while. Thanks for listening.

Love,

I totally agree with you so much CB!! When I was new I didn't even know there wassuch thing as spam!! (please don't laugh) They just said get outof here spammer wedon't want to be with someone who spams!! I didn't even know what spam was!!! CB I don't just agree with you on thispoint but on everythingyoujust said!!

I agree, too.

The older members need to remember that they were new to TT before, and think what it would be like if they were called n00bs and such when they were new.

I half-agree with you and half don't.

It really makes me angry when people are bullies to new members for no reason. It's like, if you were new, wouldn't you just want to feel WELCOMED instead of being called 'n00b' over and over again?

I really agree on this part, actually.

And it really makes me sad about how people judge people by the way they TYPE. Some people use txt tlk. GET OVER IT. It's the way they type, it's not your problem. If you think it's annoying just BLOCK THEM. It's that easy. If you make a big deal about how someone types, then you're just immature. ;(

The English language was made for a reason; txt tlk is highly annoying, to be honest. You're right, the block function is there for a reason. But some people just like to argue for the drama, and that's annoying.

Txt tlk is just an easy way to communicate, and although the majority of members on TamaTalk don't use it, it doesn't mean people should be rude to those who do.

True that, but if you ask them to use proper grammar, it would be wise to do so.

And when people ask new people their age...oh my gosh. If the member is kind of young, one of the existing members usually comments about how they're too young to be on a chatroom and everyone joins in and eventually starts totally making fun of the new member for no reason. Yeah, that's just gross.

This is where I disagree. When someone is like, 8 years old and in a chatroom alone, they should NOT be there. Seriously, that's dangerous.

But you're also right, they do begin bullying the new member after that most of the time.

And if the new member claims to be over 15, no one believes them and starts making fun of them. It doesn't make sense!

If they speak in 'txt tlk' and are highly immature, we have a reason to ignore them and disbelieve them.

And yes, some of them MAY be lying about they're age, but that's because they're insecure. How would you feel if you were new to a place, and everyone was chatting about some inside joke, and you didn't get it AND people were making fun of you at the same time? Yeah, kinda sucks, doesn't it?

Yeah, I know about that. True.

And some new people spam, okay. And yes, it's annoying. But they're NEW. They probably don't know the rules. And instead of totally yelling and screaming at them, just tell them sternly to stop. It works way better, trust me.

99% of the time they do NOT stop after spamming.

This is why you let the guides handle it :( If someone is not following the rules and there is no guide on site, you can copy and paste the convo (or take a screen shot of chat) and show it to a guide through PM so when they are available, they can deal with the person.

Anyway I think this conversation regarding this issue has gone far enough. We know giving new people a hard time is wrong, and we know stirring the pot to make troublemakers worse is also something that doesn't help. If we all can be more tolerant of other people on the internet how they speak or how they don't, we could make it a more drama-free zone without everyone freaking out.

If you have any questions on how to deal with a specific person in chat, feel free to ask me by PM or any guide by that matter and I'm sure we'll all be honest with your answers to you.

I'm gonna close this topic to prevent anymore repetition as well as any possible fires to be ignited.
