Moonlight War

Jade looked down, and saw a familiar figure. "There you are! I've been calling out to you for a while now!"

A tenor voice, of a man who was probably greater in years, probably 40-ish, said, "Sorry it took so long, Jade. But really, I have to adjust back to my old body. I've been a child for the past few years, you know."

 

[Self:.:Pity]

She nodded. "Im thirsty."

Croys ears swiveled at this new sound, this new voice, and his face twisted in confusion.

Nathaniel got up, "I'll get you some water."

Jade said to Croy, "Croy, it's Toby. Or, well, he goes by Tobias. He's my father."

Toby (For the sake of my typing) said to Croy, "You probably don't recognize my voice now. You see, I've been trapped in the form of a child for some time now. And I can fully explain to you what Jade and I are."

 

[Self:.:Pity]

Croy didnt look very amused. "And all this time, I thought you were a little pipsqueak. Of course, I cant say I was too fooled. There was something about you...."

She nodded, and laid there on the floor.

He came back with a bowl of water. "Here you are, my love."

Toby said, "Well, I did seem like the wiser one, didn't I? But... if I went around saying I was Jade's father, nobody would believe me. And if they did, they would take me in for testing, like an animal. Which they did anyway, but that's not the point. The point is, Jade remembers now, and I'm back to normal. And it's all thanks to Tettra. We'll be forever in her debt. Which is how long we'll be around. Forever. If things turn for the better in this blasted war."

 

[Self:.:Pity]

"Well."Croy murmured quietly. "Tettra certainly is amazing. Im so happy to have her as a sister- even though I feel I dont show that enough. Shell be fine, for now, anyways- so dont worry to much about her."

She nodded and reached up for it.

Nathaniel handed it to her, and then laid beside her.

Toby said, "You see... Jade is a guardian spirit for the creatures. She'd drawn to they places most of them go, it is her duty to protect them. But with so many going missing, being killed.... it started to destroy her, too. But, luckily, most of them have decided to go into hiding, rather than to fight. The last time a war such as this happened... well, I decided to end this. I'm a guardian spirit of animals. My wife guarded the humans, but she has passed on ahead of us. I destroyed all of the creatures of that time, except for select members of each race. And then, Jade went with those I destroyed, to be reborn again. The balance was going well.... until more recent times. But the destruction took much of my power.. and I was reborn again, but as a child."

 

[Self:.:Pity]

Croy took this in with moderate, but controlled, surprise. "Sounds like a history has passed between you two. Im sorry.... to have to but in now."

She sipped from it, her eyes closed as she took in the water. After her first sip, she wrinkled her face in disgust, then dipped her fingers into the water and swirled it around- it pured before evryones eyes.

Nathaniel looked amazed, and watched her in silence.

Jade said, "Don't worry. It seems more like I've butted into everyone else's lives. It's my job. The last time a great war like this happened.... we were all doomed from the start, my people and I. Some of the guardian spirits were destroyed, because the ones they protected were obliterated. I was lucky. Very lucky. And when the creatures began to multiply, my father and I returned to this realm. But now we're in almost the same situation. But the creatures now are smarter, less primitive. They know when a battle is too big for just them. They don't go out, fists flying, when they know they can't succeed. But the price they pay for a life in hiding... well, it's like a prison sentence."

 

[Self:.:Pity]

He nodded slowly. "Would you say that thier life is better then death, then?"

Tettra sipped it now, more staisfied, and glanced over at Nathaniel. "Im sorry..."

"It's okay. Please, just don't kill yourself."

 

[Self:.:Pity]

She shrugged lightly. "Making the water good dosent hurt me."

"I mean in general." He whispered.

"I had to help her." She murmured. "She was going to die."

Nathaniel kissed her forehead. "I forgive you, this once. But never again will you use it- please, thats Sora's job." But then something struck him. Tettra, Sora. Similarities. Winged beings, healers, and what not. The only difference- Sora lived forever, unless he used up his life force. His jaw dropped, and he was silent.

She looked up, sadness in her eyes. "I can see Soras future clearer then the others. He has a sad one, so I dont tell him."
