How to enter codes?

I cant seem to find the answer to this but if its on here I am SUPER sorry. I am trying to figure out how to enter in the codes at the shop. I understand how to put the surprised look on the shop owners face but whenever i push the buttons... no letters or numbers come up so I dont know how to enter in the codes... if someone could please help a new 'gotchi fan... i would really appreciate it. Oh and I dno if it matters but I have a v.4

First find Games/Activities and press B. Then scroll down to "Shop" and press B. Now press A quickly 3 times and enter your code. h34r:

Did you find a secret code?

At the shop counter screen, press (A).

Then, press (A) quickly three times. When

the shop owner's face appears surprised, punch in

the secret code to reveal a new item.
