about reality and the way the world actually is rather than the way it should be.

Wikipedia:
"Ultimately this novel paints a vivid picture of abuse"
"a victim of abuse who will likely remain trapped in a world of violence, criminal behavior and misery"
"world of abused becoming abuser."
Umm...what? Abuse? Misery? Violence? In reality, not
everything is like that. There are lots of people who never experience stuff like that, and are optimistic and happy. And then there are those who go through bad stuff like that and end up thinking everything is miserable. You can not say that is what would
really happen; it's just a story. "Not having a happy ending", while that sometimes happens in real life, it is really just pessimistic and unhopeful. >_>
Back on topic, my favorite book I guess is War of the Worlds. That is sort of sometimes dark and violent, and the main characters go through bad stuff (aliens attack), but in the end Earth's bacteria stop the aliens, the main characters survive and are reunited, and it has a happy hopeful ending.
