I’ve always been wondering what exactly people are looking for or what makes them excited about Tamagotchi or virtual pets in general?

With the variety of vpets now, we see so many different concepts and designs that make each brand different and unique with the products they come up with.

Bandai is definitely one of these brands that kept making an amazing electronic devices with an amazing lore linked to it to keep people engaged and feel some sort of a connection with their digital friend.

I personally love the lore and small details behind every virtual pet I buy and actually keep thinking about “where does this creature really come from”. When I first read about the original concept of Tamagotchi I was fascinated and my obsession for Tamagotchi grew even more! :ichigotchi:

I can definitely say that along with the lore and the concept behind it all, I can admit that the characters actually play another huge part of attracting people. :mimitci:

For me, the winners when it comes to lore and characters designs would be:

Original Tamagotchi (P1/P2/Gen1/Gen2)
Tamagotchi Devil
Tamagotchi Angel
Tamagotchi V4/V4.5/Entama/Uratama
Tamagotchi Music Star
Magical Witches
Digimon Tamers (digivices)

My question to you is: What is it exactly you’re looking for in a virtual pet? Is it the story behind it? The designs of the virtual pet? The characters or another reason that is not mentioned? :smile2:

For me, it's a bit of all of these, plus a simple full-lifecycle, with no complications like the creature being able to get a job but for some reason still pooping all over the floor. ;))

a simple full-lifecycle
Unfortunately modern virtual pets lack the “full-lifecycle” and tend to focus more on a sped up gameplay. Even though I enjoy m!x and Meets I was slightly disappointed with how quickly you will have an adult, but it’s reasonable since your main objective is to breed and mix their genes.

I don't know what I exactly look for in a virtual pet. My attitude is usually "this seems interesting, let's check it out". With that being said though I have a soft spot for 90's or obscure models - there's something very mysterious about them. You can find images but no conversations about it, ect. I suppose the reason why I like virtual pets is that they can be an experience. The designs, games, and generally how it functions is different per device. All of these factors can affect how someone responds to the pet. Despite being very simplistic devices, it's interesting how us players can get attached to their creatures and even mourn them. I feel like I'm rambling or getting off-topic here, but there's a psychological side to virtual pets that fascinates me and has helped maintain my interest in them over the years.

On a lighter note, I don't play video games as much as I used to but running a virtual pet satisfies the need to start one.
