I have at least one of every American-made tama from v1 tamagotchi connection to the v5. After that I stopped playing with them and they just sit in a bin in my room. My question is, what have I missed out on? What other tamagotchis have come out since the v5?

the v6 music star (AWESOME) and the tamago (OK, but not as good as the v6 in my opinion)

Good things about both:

v6- Make friends, start a band, perform at live concerts, listen to CDs and play with items, go to school and take music lessons, ect.

tamago- design your own house and go to the park. buy gotchi figures (about 7.00 american dollars) to unlock more content.

I think the Music Star sounds silly and unnecessary but the TamaGo sounds kinda interesting/cool. How much does the TamaGo retail?

Most stores aren't selling 'em anymore...

I'd say Amazon/eBay are your best bets.

I got my music star off of ebay. Forget Toys R Us. :( They only sell tama-go BATTERIES now. :( For batteries, your best bet is batteries plus. :) Thee's a music star (that I missed but managed to get off of ebay. :) ) and a tama-go.

You haven't missed much. You've missed Rubbish, Rubbish, and maybe the iD and iD L are not rubbish but not nearly as good as mid-connections. Mid-connections (V3 to V5.5) are awesome, but anything before is boring and anything after is too needy, in my opinion.

But they are only rubbish for me. If you have a lot of time and you're an absolute Tama freak and you don't have school or a job or anything, then the Music Star or Tama-Go would be perfect. But if you're an average teen, with homework and a Saturday job and after school clubs and that sorta stuff, then mid-connections would suit you best.

It's different for everyone. Maybe run a Music Star or Tama-Go during the holidays, and switch back to a V4 or something when school starts again. I prefer to just run my V5 full time, but each to his own.

Also, I'd use these words to describe the positive features of a Tama-Go:

More pet-like

More repetitive (get used to the same old characters, no switching families like the V5)

Simple (no "oh wait I need the Cheerful family with 80% bonding and one Intelligent chararcter and I got to check a growth chart")

It's anything BUT cool and interesting, really.

Design your own house - there are about six different styles you can buy. Some are quite rare.

Park - either meet another character and get happy or don't meet another character and get sad. It gets your Friendship Level up (Friendship Level gets higher by playing games or going to the Park. It influences the character you get)

Figures - get two extra games and a shop. About 1/3 of the games are almost exact copies of games from V3 to V5. Some of them are quite fun and challenging.

It's the truth, I own five working Tama-Gos and about ten figures. And they were all a waste of money.

I'd say, overall, the Tama-Go isn't reviewed as good by most people round here, and the Music Star is slightly more popular. If you're the type who was around when the P1s were in stores, then I'd stick with vintages and earlier connections.

Tama-Gos sell for about $20. I got mine for $22 at ToysRUs (but it was the last one there, so you might want to buy online from Amazon or eBay). The figurines (optional, but they make the Tama-Go experience more fun and give you more access to foods/items) are about $8, but there are some on eBay for as little as $4.

The Tama-Go itself is simple, but hardly gets boring. There are a lot of characters, and most are familiar and can be seen in previous versions, especially the V4.

Some nice new features are: the Dating Place, the park, the spouse staying with your Tama longer, the batteries being only AAA (much cheaper than CR2032s), the option to redecorate your Tama's home, and the fun things you can get from figurines.

My only complaints about the Tama-Go are about the size. It's like carrying around a large egg. But the size is easy enough to overlook.

My only complaint about the Tama-Go is a complaint no-one else seems to be bothered by:

POTTY TRAINING.

One big downside of the Tama-Go is this "feature" that makes school sneaking a lot harder, and makes you need to watch your Tama ALL THE TIME.

Basically, you have to potty train your Tama to get a good adult character. When it evolves into a child, you have to catch it in the few crucial seconds it can be potty trained every hour and forty minutes. It doesn't beep during those training seconds. You have to do that about five times in order to get a good character.

It's super hard. Without the potty training, you can rarely get any character above Okay Care level. I mean, does everyone else watch their Tamas full time or glitch it or what? Other people must be a lot more devoted than I am XD.

Honestly, the last Tamagotchi I bought in a store was the v4.5. I got the v5 from a friend along with a v1 and v3 for $15 because he didn't want them anymore. And even the v5 I didn't particularly like. It was weird to have more than one character on the screen. I guess I should probabaly just stick to the connections xD my first tama was a v1 back in november 2004, when I was 10 years old. Now I'm going on 18... but I just wanted to know what I'd missed in this time period. Now to walk to the hardware store for some batteries...

There was also a release (a couple, actually) in Japan of color Tamas.

Not sure when the TMGC+C came out, but you might've missed it. guide here.

The iD, first Tama to be able to have downloadable content. Guide here.

The iD L was the most recent, the most characters, downloadable content (best one, IMO). Growth chart here, Happy Symbols chart here, and pets here. (There's no guide yet, hence the links ;) )

Personally, I think the color ones seem better than the connections, and I have an iD L so I can say it's my favorite. Definately.

Whoah, I'm definitely different to you, Violetchilluvr3.

What Tamas you like really depends on who you are. People who like the iD L would be people who don't have a lot of Tamas, and have a lot of time on their hands and a lot of patience. I got really impatient with my iD L because I couldn't use Henshin Jo or get downloads and I hated taking care of babies. People who like vintages would be older people who don't have a lot of time on their hands. I found my Angelgotchi too slow and old-fashioned. People who like Connections would be people of any age who don't like to devote all their attention to their Tama, and I've also seen that several people who like Connections are Tamagotchi collectors. People who like later Connections and Tama-Go-ish ones are probably people who only just got into Tamas maybe a year ago and have a LOT of time on their hands. I don't like the Music Star because of all the messing with skill points and the fact that it's totally impossible to earn any money so your Tama ends up starving to death. So it really depends on what sort of person you are.

Generally, people tend to like the Tama they first bought, and may venture into the versions before and after. But I wouldn't stray too far from your first Tama. My first Tama was a V4, followed by the V3 then I had a long break and got back into Tamas. Then I found V6s in Toys'R'Us and got into THEM, but I never really liked them. So I'd stick with whatever was around when you were a kid.
