Actually you only need to train your pet for the pro compotitions. The reason you can't get in to the other ones are because they're full.

My sister got in once but she couldn't see the competion because she entered when the time was 5:00 KT. She does the beauty pagents and i do the cooking.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing anything could help you with the different activities. The pancake making will help in the cooking competitions, and the hairdressing + fashion classes will help with the beauty pageant. And all the running and weight-lifting will help you with the physicals.
