Lately , I have been thinking lately about the future , and where I am headed ( Financially , Socially , Intellectually , etc. ) Some people I know are saying , " its too early to be thinking about what's ahead. Enjoy your child hood. " So , I'm thinking , Why can't we plan for the future as well as enjoy the present tense.

I know some 18 year olds here that already have a car , job , and possibly a house. However , lots of us still have the future ahead of us. I wonder where I am going. Who I will marry , where I will live , how I will pay the bills , etc. Sometimes I think about what college I might go to ( and Im still in Middle School! ). So I think it would be good to get all of it off my chest [ don't even giggle , you know what I mean ].

When I grow up , I would like to be an artist or a Veterinarian. ( most every girls dream ). I told my mom that id like to be a secretary. She said they don't pay enough. So , maybe it could be a good part time job ? And what about my spouse and children!? Paying the bills and family time ? So many times people what the American dream. What if mine comes crashing down.

Ugh. Sometimes I feel so emotional about the future. ( my mom was wrong , its not puberty ). I'm not stressing , but I'll be there...

HEALTH! what about my health ? In my blood, my grandfather had Diabetes. So it kinda runs through my family. And , I love sweets. Oh no. I think I should start eating more , you know , better.

Ok , Ok , deep breaths everyone. We have time to think about this later. Right know , My hands hurt >__<. Glad We had this conversation.

Tamapal40,

You arent the only person to ever worry about these things. The scary thing about life is that you don't know what it will bring. It is also the exciting thing about it.

I am one of those people you talked about having their own home and all that, but let me tell you, I have as much uncertainty as you do.

All you can do is live your life in a way that will set you up to be happy in both the present and future. It is very important to juggle both. If you are always living for the rat race, the present will be very difficult for you.

So, eat healthy, but don't deny the things you love. Study hard, but enjoy life outside of school.

As for living the American dream? Live your dream. If you want to be in a profession that doesn't pay well, do it anyway. Your work will be much more worthwhile if you are doing something you love. If you are supposed to have kids and you dont want to, don't. If you are supposed to live in a cute house with a white picket fence, but you prefer apartments, live in an apartment. Maybe you do want all those things, but what I am trying to say is live for yourself and not up to the expectations anyone has for you.

Finally, enjoy you childhood, like everyone has told you, because soon it will be gone.

That helps alot. Though , sometimes I wonder , If i'm going to die anyways , what the point of all the success that I might make ?

FYI the american dream is that EVERYONE can have a DREAM i hope i helped

This year the importance of the future also seems to have hit me.

This year I have to choose the Baccalaureate Course I want to do for the next two years, and there were more 'ramifications' than I thought. So to pick one I need to know exactly what I want to do and what I plan on doing in the University in the future, and what GSCEs I want to take (Selectividad) (you'll probably find in the future I'll post a self help topic about Baccalaureates...).

So yes, I too also have my wonders of where I will live, what I will do, who I will marry, if I will take the correct decisions, what people will think of me, how my health will be affected, what will I do about my parents, how will I stay in touch with old friends, how will I start new projects...

Still, these things are things I expect we will eventually find out when the time comes, and it is best to be prepared.

As for the last quote, that is a bit of a silly question. :) You live your life to enjoy your life and everyone else's life as enjoyable as possible (ideally). So any success you have will make you happy and proud of yourself, and will also be benefitting other people when they use whatever you discovered that made you successful.

I am quite sure you would be happier living a nice life with success, than one without success and when it comes to retirement age you look back on your life and think that maybe you did not do what you wanted to do and maybe you should start over. My father has had some periods where he feels like this and isn't sure if being a teacher was all he ever wanted to be - so yes, strive to be successful. :(

Being successful doesn't necessarily mean being the best of your category, or being famous and universally acclaimed for but being a person who got the job they wanted to get and fulfill it every day with joy rather than with reluctance. Therefore, pick a routine you want to have and live the lifestyle you want so as not to regret it later. ;)

I wonder about my future too. Getting a job, finishing school, raising a family. Sometimes I just feel like I'm growing up too quick.

.:puma:.

lolz. I'm the same way. and yeah, I wanna be a vet too, but I'm much more dedicated that some of those wannabe's. oh well.

I think it's smart to plan ahead. Even tho I've never been too good at chess, I like to think of what I'll do.

Let's see... More screw-ups by Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears is a given... They've been to prison more times than most convicts. Why won't the police just put them there for good and be done with it? Oh, right, celebrities... It's an excuse for EVERYTHING...

Your life won't screw up if you do the right things.

Don't drink (Well, you can in moderation), don't take drugs, don't smoke and don't get involved in things that will screw up your life.

You'll be fine. Look after yourself.

Wanna tell that to them? You can't, they've heard it before. And they are still messed up.

No, actually, I'd like to personally slap each of them.

Then tell them to not make crap music and not go back to jail or rehab.

Brit wants her kids but she's an unfit mother... I'd slap her again for that.

It's a matter of you behave. These idiots didn't do it well. That's their choice to screw up their lives but they didn't have to screw up their kid's lives as well.

And another slap for Britney.

Britney wants her kids now that she's a washed up hack in the music industry. While still in it, she was rushing to music events all the time, spending less time with her kids. I do not call skipping your child's birthday to perform badly at the MTV VMAs to be the act of someone who 'wants to be with her kids'. She did that. To her child on their birthday.

I wouldn't want her around my kids either, if I were her boyfriend or had kids. I'd want her FAR from my kids.

On that note, anyone that attends the VMAs IN THEIR UNDERWEAR should be shot.
