Teacher switching in V4?

Apologies, I've already read on numerous sources regarding Version 4 and the swapping of teachers, but I simply can't get it to work on mine? They say to press the A button upon the entrance of the turtle, but nothing seems to happen when I try that. I've tried the B and C buttons to no avail, so I'm not exactly sure what I am missing.

The tamagotchi in question is an Ichigotchi of age two. It brings a graduation hat with it when going to school.

When your Tamagotchi first gets the letter to go to high school, and you go, it will be greeted by the turtle. Upon meeting the turtle, press A and Ms. Flower will come in. Press A again and Mr. Canvas will come, and so on. When you get to the teacher you want, press B and then your V4 will have that teacher.

That...makes more sense, actually. Whatever teacher you "choose" when you go to high school will stay a permanent thing until the next generation, then?

Yes, it will. The teacher you choose will also affect your character's growth, if you take it to school a lot.
