Here in Italy many parents criticised the Tamagotchi really bad.

1) Some people thinks it's bad 'cuz it would make kids not really social people, you take care of a character that isn't real, the kid would make his/her Tama his/her best friend, she/he'd like him/her, so she/he'll not have REAL friends

2) It's not a educational toy because when your Tamagotchi dies you can have another one

3) Because some kids (and teens too...) fainted seeing their Tamagotchi dead, this was also wrote on MANY news paper has "Shock da pulcino" ("chick" shock)

My answers

1) SOOO...let's ban also newborn babies dolls because a girl take care of a non-real character and she thinks she's its mom!I love Tamagotchi since I was a kid, I played with it a lot but I wasn't a non-social kid, I had a lot of friends, my relationship with my parents and my "onii-chama" were really great and also with other people and I'm really friendly since I was a kid

2) SOOOO....Tamagotchi aren't educational for kids because of that feature?Stupid...what about Pokémon?Nobody criticised Pkmn here in Italy, and they were and still really popular in Italy and really known, they fight ONLY for the pleasure of their masters to win badges, but nobody criticised that, but I know Pkmn were criticised around the world for many (and stupid) reasons like Jinx' skin and priests said they're satanic because they evolve, but nobody criticised Pkmn for the reason I said

P.S.

I hate Pkmn but NOT for that reason, don't ask me why XD

3) Well...I think it's exaggerate to faint for that...but this doesn't look like a news for a news paper :/ ooh well...Italian news and news papers sucks, I'm not saying this for that but for many things, MANY European countries said that Italy have bad news and news paper

These is the bad reception of our beloved Tamagotchis in Italy, these are the only really bad criticism about the Tamagotchi, there are other around the world like

1) Teachers criticised Tamagotchi for its sound, so in the later versions it's possible to disable its sound

2) The most known: the male fans are criticising Bandai because since 2004 Tamagotchi is more for girls, ignoring its original unisex target

3) A guy tried to ban it in Australia because there's a slot mini game

My answers

1) Usually teachers get mad of kids carrying at school any type of toy

2) It's so true and I support male fans, I'm a tomboy and I don't like too much girly things, well...some designs are cute, I like Tamagotchi P's' design but Bandai must make also more unisex and boyish designs :/ but the Tamagotchi still unisex since the McDonald's CMs of Tamagotchi toys have both boys and girls, sometimes there are even more boys than girls!

3) No comment

Write your opinion!Simply ignore the poll xD

Here in Hawaii, No one at my school knows what a tamagotchi is!

I think Italy is exaggerating, I mean, my tama died yesterday, And i became sad, I didn't

FAINT. Anyways in Hawaii there's next to NO criticism, Apart from some boys saying it's lame.

I do think Italy is being a bit harsh, and I hope they can change their opinion in the near future.

Here in Canada if you have a Tamagotchi in High School (at my school anyways) some people either consider that your a bit slow in the mind, or are a little kid. BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT AT ALL! >___< Now I feel good that I've lost all my Tamas...

FairyWars9: they are ignorants, my friend carried Spirited Away at school to watch it with her class, her classmates said cartoons are kids

About Tamagotchi in Italy, news papers don't publish nothing about Tamagotchi anymore, the last Tamagotchi that was published in Italy is the Familitchi in 2008, in 2004, with the TMGC Connection V2, some sites signalized that Tamagotchis returned in stores, someone on a site published a post titled "Torna il Tamagotchi, il giocattolo incubo" (the Tamagotchi returns, the nightmare toy) :/

I translated for you all part of an article published on Il Corriere della sera" in May 26th 1997 The Verdis: Sequestrate the Tamagotchi. It's a war against the virtual chick. The criticism about the Tamagotchi doesn't seems to calm down, the virtual chick to take care in an electronic capsule. (lol) Yesterday Lazio's Verdis' leader Angelo Bonelli even talked to State's attorney of Rome asking to sequestrate on the Italian market the Japanese toy that in the US it's referred a nightmare toy (bullsh*ts). The game is sold to a kids' target and it's like a real animal, taking care of its material needs - said Bonelli - Every abuse, carelessness or mistake cause the death, we must considerate about psychological damages that minors are supposed to get, they can't be ground of conquest for the market and commercialism. No comment... Hey guys!Giochi Preziosi (the company who published the Tamagotchi in Italy) even said that the Tamagotchi isn't a kids toy and it's only for adults and teenagers, WTF?!

Malfoy Edit: Merged posts. Please refrain from consecutive posting - you can edit your previous post within 24 hours, thank you :D

Well, before getting too deep into anything, Italy is only one small part of the entire globe. I nearly got into some political/regional dispute, but aahha... I'll keep quite. Short form is: who cares? Play with whatever toy you want to and enjoy.

And about criticizing the Tamas' sounds- you can shut the sound off in any version (as far as I know). If the children left the sound on in class, of course it would bother others! ^^

I will agree Tamas are more girly designed, and I am thankful I am not a male with a love for them (since they have jewels and pastel colors, lol!). But hey, if it bothered those males enough, they would either pick up the old Digimon or just not play with a Tama. Even as a girl, carrying one around makes me feel silly, sometimes. Popping it out on lunch breaks at work means I'm a little shy and keep it in my lap. Eh, depends on the person is what I'm trying to say. The most I've ever done is kept it in a crochet cover while on a lanyard that was hooked around the straps of my purse. I'm not one to flaunt it around my neck o___o

Not trying to be a Malfoy or anything, but isn't this issue a little... too old?

Everywhere outside Japan had the very same stance against Tamagotchi during those times as well. Those over-exaggerated claims contributed to the demise of the franchise's popularity in the West.

Not everyguy likes Digimon, but if a guy likes Tamagotchi since 1996 it's normal if they get mad about Tamagotchi's new target.

I know the article is old, but news papers don't talk anymore about that.

I'd love to have an updated Digimon pet. My problem with Digimon is it seemed to move away from it's origins as a virtual pet and became.....well I'm not sure how to describe what it became. The digivices could only be described very loosely as a virtual pet and the action figures were just another in the dime a dozen action figure market.

The looks of the Tamagotchi P's don't bother me anymore. I'm probably going to end up buying one soon and I don't really care what anyone thinks of me for having it. If strangers think their opinions matter to me then they are severely deluded. And if anyone were to ask me why I have it in an insulting manner I'd simply reply "well, first of all the Tama is a lot smarter than you"

robodog: you're right, I'm thinking to buy a P's too but maybe I'll wait an English release by Bandai Asia

There may not be an English release. From what I'm given to understand the Japanese P's aren't hard to figure out even if you don't know Japanese.

Everything has haters...everything has fans. Both exaggerate about the thing they love or hate. I've seen bad reviews on all of my interests, but I can ignore them. This kind of thing is common.

For me, Tamagotchi toy started being girly since v4 was released, but the girly stuff were not that much. The girliest version of Tamagotchi is the v4.5., because all characters have wings and stuff, and when I showed the character chart my friend, he told me the same, that till v3 is boyish, and next versions are reducing boy designs, and those little that seems that are for boys, the screen inside is full of pink! So if v4.5. is released in Italy, that is the main reason that Italians complain
