I spent the weekend scuba diving in a lake in Arkansas, and now I'm suffering from some sort of prolonged stillness illness. The diving itself doesn't bother me, but we have to take a boat to our dive sites, and the boat is the problem. I feel fine when I'm on it feeling the motion of the small waves moving the boat around, but after I get off of it, I still feel like I'm on the boat.

I have been on solid ground since Sunday afternoon, but I have the almost constant sensation that the ground is moving and tossing beneath me. I hate it, it becomes so bad that I can stumble a little and feel like I might fall down. The only time I feel normal is when I'm in a moving car, because I'm in motion again. It's horrible, because I can't make it stop by myself, and it's the strangest sensation!!

I'm trying to get an appointment with a specialist who can help me get rid of this problem. It affected me last year after I went diving at the same location, but I don't remember if it lasted this long afterward or not. When the feeling gets really bad, I have to control the panicky feeling that I get because it is rather unsettling. Has anyone else had this problem? What were you able to do to ease the symptoms? Any advice is great, I just want to feel normal again.

 
I know how you feel. I went on vacation with my family, and my uncle rented a pontoon boat. We spent half the day fishing, and sometimes I still feel a bit off-balance, even though we're back home. It really is on odd sensation.

I'm not sure what can help the feeling, but I suggest removing everything sharp from the room. :huh: Nah, just kidding. Since I had it, I just lay down. It didn't make my stomach feel much better from the feeling that I'm about to topple over, but I atleast wasn't falling down because I was off-balance, or tripping over anything, so I didn't get hurt. ;)

 
Wow! Someone else who knows what it feels like to have this going on! Boy am I glad to know it's not just me and I'm not exactly crazy. :puroperatchi: While I haven't cleared the area of sharp objects, I am wearing flat sandals when I go to some stores tonight to make it less likely that I will stumble and fall. :)

Our dive boat is a pontoon too, and we spent the better portion of 2 days on it. I can't wait to go diving again, but I can do without this ridiculous feeling!

 
I got a feeling like that in a water park's wave pool. It lasted about 5 days. For some reason when I took a bath instead of a shower, the feeling went away. I dunno if it would work with you, though. :)

 
I've always been hesitant to get in a wave pool for that very reason. I couldn't imagine how I would feel if I was on a raft in one. *-*

This is the 3rd day since I've been on the boat, and I still feel wierd. It doesn't feel as severe as it was, but I'm definitely still off-balance. I notice it more when I stand up after sitting down, or lean forward and move around taking care of my reptiles. So odd.

A friend of mine told me that the proven best remedies are ginger pills, a prescription patch worn the entire time you are on the boat and a little after, or an herbal topical medication called MotionEaze that you put behind your ear. Next time I go scuba diving, I'm definitely getting the patch and ginger pills! I tried wearing accupressure wristbands yesterday that are supposed to help, and they might have helped a little, but they also made me feel like I was going to pass out. Very strange. ^_^

I got back from a boating trip on Sunday, I fell down twice. I feel seasick all the time. I need help with this too, It's driving me crazy.

Probably from being on the boat so long, I would imagine. It happens to many people. Just remember to always take a gravol before going on a big boat for a long time to get rid of that nauseated, dizzy, sea-sick feeling. :)

And foods like Soda Crackers and Ginger Ale will help the dizziness.

Other than that, I hope you had a great time in Arkansas!

I felt that way when I went to an amusement park when I was 15. The rides are seriously hardcore. Hardcore meaning I was thrown off a gigantic slingshot into a pool of water. Ow x.x And wherever I went for the rest of the day I felt wobbly, like I was still on one of the rides. I felt numb. Very numb.

Probably some medication would work, like Gravol (as **UrItChI** suggested.)

Or go to a specialist. Dizzyness could be dangerous if you are near any unsafe objects. And rarely -from what I heard- some people get fainting spells while in a dizzy condition.

Very true. :D

Ginger is best known for soothing the stomach and easing nausea, just like a Gravol does.

Try eating foods with ginger in them, or eat some crystallized ginger (which is merely ginger root with a crusting of sugar to make it sweeter tasting. You can buy them at places like the Bulk Barn.}

The natural way to a cure, I prefer to call it. Ginger! I have it every night.

 
This might be an odd thing to suggest, but maybe take some dramamine. It's supposed to help with motion sickness, but if you're still feeling a type of motion sickness, it might be of help to you.

I usually get that way right after getting off a boat and then for a few hours afterwards o.o

Try laying down and see if that helps.
