Title says it all - do you think a Tama Profy is a good buy for $44 USD? What I'm looking for in my next Tama is:

  • Collectibility/rarity - I'd like to have a varied collection with rare versions. Is the Tama Profy rare and/or limited?
  • Fun - I hear the Tama Profy is different to most Tamas, in what way is it different?
  • Variety - just how different is it to a normal Tama?
  • Right neediness - is it super needy? Does it have baby stages? How many games and characters are there, do you need to earn lots of money, are the games long?

Please can I have information about the Tama Profy, and the pros and cons of it, as well as any links to a better price. My parents have PayPal and credit/debit cards, so I can pay in most ways. However I can't pay a huge sum for shipping, although I'm really not fussy about how long it takes. ;)

Seems like a good price - although I have seen Jason from eBay list at between $27-$34 dollars (but you would have to wait until he lists the item again before you could order). Otherwise, from what I've seen on HLJ and CDJapan, $44 dollars seems like a standard price.

I'm not sure if the Profy is rare as it can still be purchased through eBay, HLJ and CDJapan for a decent price (and is widely in stock). Regardless, I think it would be a great addition to your collection. From what I've heard, the Tama Profy CANNOT connect to a Tamagotchi ID L and is VERY Japanese heavy. In fact, it does not play like a Tamagotchi at all. I'd recommend checking out this thread that Pantheratchi started in March. There are some helpful links linking to TamaZone that go into great detail on how the TamaProfy works and functions (there's also some great pictures, too!). Orandatchi has also supplied some great info in this thread as well regarding its playability.

Hope this helps!

From what I've read, I'd say that unless you're planning to learn Japanese, Dazz, don't get it, because it seems to be very Japanese heavy.

Graficks has provided some good links, I'd say to check them out. :)

  • Collectibility/rarity - I'd like to have a varied collection with rare versions. Is the Tama Profy rare and/or limited? It's a anime linked Tamagotchi, so it doesn't seem too rare.
  • Fun - I hear the Tama Profy is different to most Tamas, in what way is it different? It's not a pet, as what I said, it's anime linked. It's menus are different than the original lined up one. Melody Charm is a option that was merged into the original Yellow Tama-Profy in the anime series.

  • Variety - just how different is it to a normal Tama? It's touch-screen, bigger, only 2 colors, pink and purple, has no taking-care of function, very Japanese heavy. I have one, and I know Japanese enough to play with it.
  • Right neediness - is it super needy? Does it have baby stages? How many games and characters are there, do you need to earn lots of money, are the games long? It's not a taking care version... Mainly the money system is replaced by Tama Hearts. No baby stages, the starter characters you obtain are Melodytchi and Lavulitchi. Umm... You unlock games by returning the correct Tama Hearts each 3 times, but you might unlock a character. Tama-Star_Girl made a character chart on Tama-Zone, you can look for it in the growth charts section. The games aren't THAT long, it's just 1 minute long.

It's seriously Japanese heavy, it took me an hour to get through the questions they ask you for your profile when you put batteries in it. The rapid fire profile questions are even worse, the screen times out (It goes blank.) after a few seconds, and you have to start over again with the questions.

Then, mail starts to come, with more Japanese to read.

Besides all of the Japanese, the Tama Profy is really fun, the games are cute, and only about a minute long, like Orandatchi said. You can unlock games too, after every third mail request thing you complete. :p I got mine around... two months ago? I'm still entertained, it never gets old. :)

Hi Dazz.... Well as graficks pointed out that thread I started in March, the links there is also really valuable. The Tama Profy is very Japanese heavy, but it still is a lot of fun to me. To start with it is NOT a regular tamagotchi - i.e. with a baby stage, discipline, food meters and so on. Basically, after you answered the questions when you start the Profy up, based on your answers, you get your tama-profile on the Profy ( I am Giragiratchi hehe). Then you have to play the games to obtain the Tama Hearts requested by your character about 3 times a day. The most important times to play is in the morning and evening to obtain the right hearts. With the passwords (which are sliding-puzzles) you can unlock the profiles of other characters and so on. The links to TamaZone will explain it sufficiently. To end off, I don't have ANY KNOWLEDGE of Japanese whatsoever, but I really enjoy the Profy and it was definitely worth the money. But it is not a "tamagotchi" in the sense of how we know tamas as virtual pets....I would say it is more of an ongoing game. Hope this helped a bit :D

Dazz, I would wait if I were you... I've seen lots of people complaining that it's very language heavy, I think you have to know more than just a tiny bit of Japanese.
