Shell-swapping

I'm considering soldering a V4 to a V2 shell by sound wires. I know the V4 has many more sounds than expressed on the V2--wondering if anyone here's tried this sort of thing before.

I ask because the speaker is glued to the shell on Tamagotchi.

I haven't tried that, but you could always cut the thin layer of glue and keep the original speakers.

Eh, that sounds like too much trouble. I doubt I'd get it off in one flat piece.

There is a way of taking the metal piece off with the inners of the tama. You just need to carefully push from the back where you can see it on the back until it gets unglued/stuck from that spot. Then again with the other and they should be fine and no solder will be needed. (hopefully)

Anywho, the wires have already been completely severed. I guess I'll have to have a closer look at the speakers later.

Not if you are careful. I popped out one from a p2 with little trouble. I think I used an eraser so it wouldn't mark/bend the metal piece. I believe its simmilar in connections.

Otherwise, you can pry it off with a lever/flathead on the inside.

The V4 and V4.5 speakers seem to be like that, but on the earlier connection models, the plastic ring around the speaker has been melted in spots to hold the plate in place

I shouldn't be able to remove the plate without bending it

I think I'll try soldering the wires to the speaker on the shells. If things don't work out, I can always buy some soldering wick and try another method.

I have, I switch my v4.5 and gave it a v2 shell you need to be able to re solder the wires for sound it isn't too hard aslong as you are careful to put things back again.

mine is a tiny bit fainter but it does, make sure you take photos of where each wire is placed so you remmember! You'll probabaly only need to detach the sound ones to switch keep everything else as intact as possible and I recommend keeping the icon background paper and putting that in the new shell also as mine has the v2 background and for mail, the light icon flashes lol!

I put a V4 into my V2 shell a few days ago and I thought I'd let you know how it went.

The sound is just the same as before. There's no difference in sound quality. I suppose that means the magnet is the same on all Connection releases.

Shell fits perfectly; the boards are the same size and the screens are the same width and thickness (even the plastic piece in the front). It's very simple to swap shells between Connection models; simply sever the wires and reattatch to the back of a new shell.

A thing to note when experimenting: the thickness of the plastic front pieces (that cover the display and stay exposed) is different on the Japanese models. I bought an Akai with a less than shiny screen, so I opened it up intending to switch out the display piece. Surprisingly, it was a different size than the Connection I took the replacement piece from.
