1. Look at the next room. Does it have at least three items or more inside?
2. Has your partner stopped following you after setting foot into the room?
3. Are multiple Pokemon falling from the roof of the dungeon once you enter the room?
4. Has the music changed from the original dungeon music to a menacing song (song is just called "Monster House" in the OST) after steps 1, 2 and 3?
That means you are now entering a Monster House, where a large group of Pokemon fight you. They will not stop until you defeat them. Read the tips below to help yourself get out of one.
I would recommend Petrify Orbs, Foe-Fear Orbs and Spurn Orbs, as those will help you escape a Monster House without losing HP.
If you use the Petrify Orb, exit the room from wherever you came in after using the Petrify Orb, and go a different way (if there is not a different way, then try and find a path through the Monster House (if the Pokemon are laid out correctly during the Monster House) to escape without attacking them, otherwise you'll have to fight them, as attacking will cause them to fight back. This also means that if the Monster House is located in a room where the stairs are, then you have no choice). The Pokemon inside the Monster House room will stay petrified as long as your partner (and you) do not attack them.
Foe-Hold Orbs make them pause, but not for long, as this gives you a limited amount of time to think of what to do, so I wouldn't recommend using them.
Foe-Fear Orbs make the Monster House 'mons gain the Cowering/Terrified status, causing them to run away from you. This gives you the advantage of escaping it.
Spurn Orbs randomly warp Monster House 'mons anywhere around the dungeon, making you have a good chance to escape, but they will come back and fight you when they see you.
Also, if you play Super Mystery Dungeon, there is an IQ skill called "House Avoider", where you can avoid Monster Houses altogether (however, IQ groups such as C, D and G do not have this skill).
I hope this helps! Happy exploring!
