First question: What does going to work do? Like the last icon on the top (fifth one).

Second question: What is the mail icon do? The middle one on the bottom (eighth one).

Please help me understand more.

The Job page is for the V4, but the same principles apply to the V4.5.

Regarding discipline, you praise your tamagotchi if it is crying or has its back turned to you and appears to be sulking. You time out your tamagotchi if the attention icon lights up for no reason - i.e. when happy and hunger metres are not empty.

Right. Also, there should be an instruction manual with your Tamagotchi, which explains how to use it. The manual is hidden though, in th package. You have to look behind the cardboard. If you click the blue link below, it will give you the original V4.5 manual:
