Hey guys, just thought I'd let you all know before you go off getting a new DSi or DSi XL. So yes, the Nintendo 3DS will be out on February 26th 2011 in Japan for ¥25,000 Yen, which is roughly $297 USD, and sometime in March (yes right after Feb) for North America and Europe. Price for US and EU is not set yet. Possibly around $280.

I'm really wanting a new DS... Just hoping to wait for the Lites to Still go down in price. (Since I still play my GBA games on my ds) I have a first release version of the DS... Poor Hindge is kinda broke but works and such. I'm just really careful of it now.

 
Do we know when it will get released in the UK? I had been holding off buying one of the larger DS's because of this.

Although I have to say, it looks very ugly! ^__^'

Yeah I thought it was kinda clunky looking too. XD As I posted, it's coming out in the UK in March, no specific date yet, but it's in March 2011.

Yeah, I doubt they'll lower it much though. With stuff like the DSi and DSi XL, the price difference between Japan and the US is usually about $20 (although they've cut the prices another $20 recently). I'm with you though, it's definitely a hefty price tag.

I do not think you should just settle for a Lite even if the prices drop lower. Honestly, there's not a huge enough difference between the original and the Lite. Ok, so the Lite's slicker and prettier, has a brighter screen, but what else is different? Nothing really. Besides, my Lite's hinge cracked after my 1 year warranty was up (still works fine though it's just floppy).

I'm sure you must love your GBA games if you want a DS that's backwards compatible, but you could think about how non-obsolete games might be good. :) Why don't you get a used/refurbished GBA on the side instead of buying a new Lite specifically for that? Then you could save up for the 3DS (which will still be able to play DS and DSi games, so no worries there).

 
Wow... I used to think the 3DS was an April Fool's joke. And now it's for real. But I think I'll stick with my regular DS, unless the 3DS has games that are only for 3DS and no other system. Now that I think about it, I see that happening with game consoles more and more.

Just so you know, 3DS games will only be playable on the 3DS. The 3DS is a totally new handheld console, not a little upgrade like DS->DS Lite->DSi->DSi XL.

There is no way that a DSi or DS could play a 3DS game because of high resolution graphics, along with differing screen ratios, and also other features considering the 3DS has a slide pad (think analog stick), motion sensor, gyro sensor, and a bunch of other nitpicky details.

Oh, and here are some awesome games I'm excited for the 3DS. :)

Nintendogs + Cats

Kingdom Hearts 3D (still in development, long way to go for this one I think, and "3D" is just a placeholder title)

Animal Crossing (REVAMP! Whooo! Looks better than the Wii)

...and those are the only ones I'm kind of interested in. :3 But there's other ones like Mario Kart, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (remake), Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, etc.

I still have my GBA... I love it but I really enjoy the light in the game system... Otherwise... The other special features don't really catch me that much. I have access to a DSLite but its not mine and I need to give it back... hahaha.

I constantly go back to my GBA games... Pokemon/Sonic/ETC ... I still buy GBA games too. So it'd be worth it to me... (Pokemon for the importing into the DS version of the games, Which is one of my primary games.)

I really don't know if I will actually want a 3DS since 3D will most likely need 3D glasses... Not my idea of fun. It just got me at the price....

O_O Whoa whoa WHOA! Looks like I really need to explain to you about the 3DS!

The really big deal about the 3DS is that you will be able to view games in 3D without the need for special glasses. Ya see, you view it from a sweetspot when looking at the screen, and you can adjust the strength of the 3D as well (or turn it off altogether). And 3D is not the only big change, the graphics have improved extremely from the DS/DSi, as in just about as good as the PSP now. The 3DS now has a motion sensor, gyro sensor, and slide pad (like an analog stick).

By the way, with the new Nintendogs + Cats, if you lean in towards the screen your puppy will jump up and lick your face. :p Oh, and facial recognition will be integrated into that game.

Yeah I know, I was mad when I found out about how much it cost. Some people are predicting that it might be $250 in the US, but still...*winces*

 
OMFG, THEY'RE ALREADY AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER??? Time to start begging to my parents! Even if i have to pay for it myself though, i'm geting it! I'm mostly excited for Kid Icarus: Uprising! We haven't had a Kid Icarus game in over 20 years, so therefore i never got a chance to play any games from the series. It looks like a very cute and fun game, so i can't wait. Also for Ocarina of Time 3D. I just saw some of the screenshots from it, young Link is soooooo adorable! <3 <3 <3 I just love the revamped art style in this one! Might even compete with LoZ: Skyward Sword coming out for Wii. Oh, i can't wait!

And for everyone who's complaining about the price... i think it's pretty reasonable for what it is. This isn't a DS like anything they released before, it's gonna be sooo amazing, and with a lot more features. But i probably wouldn't suggest buying unless you're a serious gamer. For others, it may not be worth the money. Anyway, i've got my fingers crossed that i can get it for christmas. (well, it won't come out until march, but it can count as a christmas present anyhow. if my parents have it pre ordered by then i'll call it a present).

 
Slooow down a moment, pais. :p It's only available for pre-order on PlayAsia right now (and that's just going to be the JP one), but as soon as I find out that it can be pre-ordered on GameStop or Amazon, I'll post it here. ^_^

You're lucky you can beg your parents...I'm going to have to save a looong while for this. But I think I'll have enough by the time of release. Just about. And if I can spend close to $350 on a PSP + stuff for a Kingdom Hearts game, I can spend that much on a 3DS + screen protectors for more than 1 game (although I'm waiting for KH3D as well, hahaha).

 
Wooow, I just realized how insane I sounded back there. xD I was extreeeeemely hyper that morning for some reason. And I was just really excited about this. I probably won't pre-order it until december anyway, because I'm thinking of asking for it for christmas, as a pre-order, because it won't be out until march. Then I can ask other relatives to get me games for it for christmas. zelda and kid icarus are my two must-haves right now, but i would also like animal crossing and kingdom hearts. And maybe something else i forgot. I'm actually not interested in getting nintendogs though, because that gets boring after a while, i haven't played my old nintendogs game in years.

 
OMG the 3DS will be awsome!!! I save my Bday money and Xmas money so ill have about £190

then exange the dollars to pounds

so 3Ds would cost £220

 
I'm thinking if the US gets the black one and the blue one, I'll probably get the blue one 'cause black on it's own might be kinda boring.

Black's slick too of course. Meh, guess I don't know which I'll really get. :p
