Marie cuddled closer to him, eating her food in silence, much more dainty than she used to be at the table. She now had poise and etiquette when she dined, something years of schooling had taught her. Overall, it was becoming of her.

okay, so it takes place right after world war two, in Italy, for the most part. The book basically centers around a man called "The English Patient" who is so burned up, they can't identify him.

Marie smiled and nodded, then looked worried. "Is that a bad thing? You're okay with it, aren't you?"
