I believe you have to build up your guts points (not sure if they call it that on V4..) Intelligence, kindness etc.

You will then be sent 'mail' offering you a job.

Well, the time at which your tamagotchi gets a job depends slightly on the character you have, and whether you have paused it, reset-downloaded, or changed the time. Otherwise, the average is probably around 5-6 tamagotchi years old. Just for information, a tamagotchi year is approximately one day. Also, not all jobs will be open to your tamagotchi. When you do recieve the special letter, you will look at all the jobs available on the game. When you see one you like, press B to apply. If the 3 creatures all hold up an 'O' shape, you have the job. If not, you will return to the scrolling screen, and can apply for another untill you choose one you can apply for. Each day, your tamagotchis salary is 1000-3000 Gotchi Points, depending on the level of your work.

So far My Tamagotchi V4's have been offered jobs the following day after graduating school at about 3-4 years old.
