Items after death?

I just got a tamagotchi for the first time in years and I just had a quick, probably really stupid, question. Here goes.

After your tamagotchi dies or breeds a new generation, do all the items you have collected go away? Do they stay until you physically reset? Whats the deal?

When the adult leaves the baby and you start a new generation, you get to keep your items.

But if the tama dies(or you reset the tama) then you lose all your items.

If your Tamagotchi dies, you can also press A+C together to hatch a new egg, and still get to keep all of your stuff.

It depends what version it is. (◑_◑)

I know the on the colors (like iD L and P's) you keep all your items after the Tamagotchi dies.

On the connections (e.g. Version 3 and Version 4) you will lose all your items when a Tamagotchi dies.
