When your tamagotchi gen 1 runs out of battery can you download the past progress and if you can how???

I don't believe you can. The original models were completely self-contained and have no outside connectivity whatsoever.

I just started another P2 run today and when I put the new battery in it fully reset as if I just bought the thing and took out the paper tab on the back.

Aww man that's a bummer! When you put in your battery did you press B to see if u had a option or not?

Unfortunately vintages and their remakes (including gen 1) don’t give you the option to download.

You will be greeted with a new egg to start over.
