It has a yellow basic color with a black tiger striped pattern.

It's an American P2. It is rare, but not very rare.

So, basically it's a semi-rare tamagotchi, a little more than you'd normally pay but not over the top, and probably not as hard to find

Yes. It's semi-rare, rarer than the Connection Tamas, but it's the most common ancestor.

I think they meant the shell design. I have it, was my first 1998 tama. Used to be rare but now there is a lot on ebay.

The Rarest Tamagotchi is the Yashii they are 100$ to 335$ but yours is about meh... 30$ to 40$
