how do i pause the id l?

im just worried if i go to school and come back with a dead tama.....

You could use either one of these methods (I prefer the second one)

You could go to the time screen, hit a and c, as if you're changing the time, and leave your tama like that.

Or, you could change the time to when it's sleeping so that it's safe while you work. I prefer this method because I don't like messing up growth patterns, but that's just me.
