Help with Bobo Panda Byte

Does anyone have a Bobo Panda Byte? If so, you may be able to assist me. I started playing with it again recently. It is currently three years of age. When I feed it either candy or apples, it eats them, but it does not fill the hunger hearts. Can someone explain why this is happening and how it can be fixed. Thanks.
