Hello everyone! My name is Meylani and I've been part of TamaTalk since 2012, but just now started to be active on it more recently.

Now, I've been collecting Tama's and other Tama products ever since I was little, but I'm not too familiar with the specific different types aside from generations and years they came out X_x

I was wondering if you guys can help name which Tama's I have so far? I know the newer ones I have are the: TamaGo, Tamagotchi P's, and the Tamagotchi IDLE (E is for the english one, right?), but that's about it.. Dunno anything about things like: V1, V2, etc etc. So any help would be great X_x

I'm working on getting the Tamagotchi Ocean and Garden, but they're so hard to find :(

Hi there Meylani!

The three tamas at the top right are vintages, released in the late 90's... they look like P1s, the very first tamagotchi. Vintages are quite small and do not have the infrared port up top for connecting. The boxed vintage as well as the purple and pink vintage are definitely P1s but I'm not sure about the green with yellow buttons because I can't see the screen design. The P1 screen background is checkered, while the P2 has a swirly pattern. The P2 was released very soon after the P1, and are the same shape so can be hard to tell apart unless you see the screen :) they are different because they have different characters.

Tamagotchi oceans and forests are also vintages. I love the forest a lot, and there's one on eBay right now with a $5 start if you are interested: https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Start-RARE-Unused-Forest-Version-Rare-Mori-de-Tamagotchi-Yellow-No-389-/310753925129?pt=Electronic_Battery_Windup_Toys_US&hash=item485a609809 These usually end up going for something like $10 - $25 not including shipping, depending on the design... though I managed to get one for $6 once :D

Onto your connections... your transparent black with pink accents is an English V3 (V3s have a blunt antenna), your yellow bubbles tamagotchi is a V4 (these have a ball antenna) and the tama with the star antenna is a V4.5. The orange with stars is a V2 and the orange tamagotchi with a purple border is a V1. V1s and V2s are at times impossible to tell apart as they look identical, but there's a topic on Tamatalk where ciara683 has compiled pictures of North American tamagotchi designs, which may be useful if you want to buy more tamagotchi connections in the future: https://www.tamatalk.com/IB/topic/186202-north-american-tamagotchi-shell-designs-v1-v4/.

If you head over to the Tamatalk reference section you'll be able to find growth charts, tips and tricks and lot of other cool stuff for each specific version of tamagotchi you have.

Hope to see you around! Your collection is very pretty. I absolutely love the swirly transparent V4.5 :)

Welcome welcome!

I love the diversity of new and old in your collection.

As for the Ocean, don't be afraid to shop around! I got my first Ocean for $70 (used, but it included a case!) but I managed to snag a new one for $39. Your patience will be rewarded. ;)

A word of warning though. They are QUITE needy. I'm sure you've heard it all before, but the rumours are true! I can only run them when I have extended periods off of school - otherwise they become too overbearing! The game is quite annoying - sometimes it doesn't feel you have a 50/50 chance of finding the gold, and the octopus is very annoying when it wipes all of your happy hearts! To add fuel to the fire, feeding it snacks will likely increase the chance of your Tamagotchi dying. :(

Best of luck to you!

Thank you everyone! I'm so happy I know which Tama's I have now!

Did they make an English Ocean or Garder by chance or are they all in Japanese?

They did make an English Tamagotchi Ocean. That said, it is EXPENSIVE! Easily over one hundred dollars.

The Japanese ones are simple enough to understand, and there are plenty of resources online. Mimitchi.com is a great website to visit for vintage Tamas!

Unfortunately, they did not make a english Tamagotchi Garden... But like the Ocean, they are simple enough to understand without understanding Japanese!
