I'm not interested in the DSi coming out next year by the way. What I wonder is, is how durable the DS Lite is. Because lots of people complained about the right hinge of the DS breaking, therefore, the DS Lite is broken. Also, some people complained about it not charging anymore after a few months of owning it. But I'm more worried about the hinge thing right now. Do you guys think it's liable to break? Cause this thing is really expensive for me to get for Christmas and I really cannot afford to replace it if it breaks or have it repaired for $50+. Do you think Nintendo fixed this problem in the past year? Help!

I think they did because I got my DS lite 1 year ago and nothing happened to it. :) ;)

But mine did kinda break when dropping it.

The DS Lite isn't very durable. Nintendo put up "armor" made of Nerf for it, though. I have the DS Lite and the gaurd, so believe me that it's a very good pair!

Cecib

If you buy a nintendo ds case, it should protect it. Though, when I drop it, sometimes it freezes (The screen). Also, I've had my nintendo ds for... 1 year? And it hasn't stopped charging. So it should be A okay. If you buy the plastic cases, once you tdrop them, the hinges break(The plastic cases hinges.). So, I think ya should buy plastic cases, as they also don't fit in on the nintendo ds cases. And they break easily.

My brother has one. His hinge has never come off, neither have any of my friends. He does drop it often, but if you're responsible for your DS and don't drop it, it should be fine. But if you are clumsy like me, I suggest getting DS guards to protect it. But you should get it, it isn't a piece of crap.

I've had mine for over a year (I've had other DS's in the past, too) and it's a black DS Lite. It still charges and the hinge isn't even cracked. My old DS Lite broke because it cracked and finally fell apart. But this one isn't cracked.

My old DS's right hinge broke. I think the Lite is better because it looks like its joined properly I'v had mine for 2 years and it soemtimes freezes if I drop it but that because I droped it alot I also have a nerf case. Cases should help.

Thanks for the reassurance guys. ^_^ I'm generally careful with my things, so it should be okay. Another question, do you guys think it's a better idea to get the Nerf Armor than the Nintendo DS Lite Protector (clear, plastic, by HORI)? Or I guess I'm just most worried about the hinge, so in that case, which of these is more likely to protect that better?

Like I love the idea of the mega-protection that the Nerf Armor gives, but it looks pretty hard to get off. Some people complained about it getting the DSL scratched or nearly breaking off the top half of the DSL. Even if I would prefer to get the plastic case so I could still see my DSL's color, I guess it's a better idea to make sure my DSL is still in one piece, right?

P.S.

I'll be happy to have more ideas/suggestions.

The regular ds costs 60 dollars and its stronger than the lite. My ds's right hinge broke when I sat on it. I only weigh 68 lbs.

I think Nintendo makes a clear plastic/silicone case for the DS.

You will be protected, and the glorious colour will show through.

I will try to find a link to Wal-mart, or another store(s)

I pretty much only buy stuff off Amazon, but they don't have any new original DS's. Besides, my dad already ordered the crimson/black Lite last month. So too late now.

P.S. You sat on it? I don't think I would try that...

Uh, I forgot to mention that I live in southern China. Which is why I order stuff all the time. Anyway, I think I'll get the Nerf Armor.

Pokemon DS case!

My brother has this one works good considering he is so clumsy his DS isnt broken at all.

Mine

I have this pack with head phones pens and game cases and that my case is good the nerf ones are a little hard to take out but this ones cool.

For me it's been fine. I've had it for a year. as long as you are careful with it, it will not break. and I guess those people don't take care of it.

I don't really like the DS lite. It breaks easily. Me and my sisters have broken atleast 1 DS. One my sisters screen stop working for some reason. For me and my other sister the hinge broke. I'm getting another DS for Christmas probably. Nerf cases help alot. My current one broke because I toke the Nerf case off.

I own two DS lites.
Both work.  Both have no broken hinges.  I guess it's that people don't take care of their handhelds to the point they break.
I would have to agree v_v

The Lite's hinges are more durable, by the way.

I've dropped my DS plenty of times, sat on it a million times and I may have gotten it a bit wet before.

I'd say the screen is it's weakest point, so you should definately look into protection there.

Plus the screen is much brighter, and it fits in your pocket MUCH better, and it weighs quite a bit less ;)

As for cases.. I don't use one, so I can't tell you ^_^

EDIT: I just read my post and it sounds really bias. Maybe it hasn't broken because I drop mine carefully -shrugs-
