It's saying how he's waiting for a cure for diabetes (he has type 1) but none of the cures are 100% correct for curing them. But he believes that in a little bit longer, they'll have a cure. Last two lines are saying that you don't know how lucky you are to have something or be able to eat something or something, until it disapears.
