Can you only produce tamababies with Tamagotchi Connection or does it also work without the Connection version?

The originals can not product babies via the Matchmaker, nor do I think the Mini can. It has such limited features (mini) that I don't think that was included in the programming.

The newer Tamagotchis can connect with different versions, not just each other.

Yes, and they can mate as well. I have *personally* seen it myself
