Yes, it's a cheat.

It's been placed into debug mode. Pressing the C (right) button causes the time to pass very quickly. It's necessary to take the Tamagotchi toy apart to reach the jumper pads required to place it into debug mode. It's not something Bandai intended anyone to do.
