What is better, Aim or Skype? Join the great debate!

I like Aim better. It's more visually appealing and it's less annoying. I like how you just have to make an account and then you can start using it whereas Skype is all annoying and confusing and you have to download the program to your computer. Aim also has cooler emoticons and is less...terrifying...than Skype. I keep worrying that strangers on Skype will talk to me and start video chat lol. IDK why; I"m weird. owo;

Let the voting begin!

What do you mean by better? Better is a rather ambiguous term. However, I will say that Skype is superior to AIM.

Also, I think the problem you have with Skype is that you neglected to change some of your settings

you can keep people from randomly calling you, you know...

Yes but it's annoying you have to change the settings. So Aim is superior in the case. B)
On AIM, can you prevent embedded images from showing? (Allowing them to show in the first place is a terrible idea--surprised you aren't complaining about the people on AIM)

That's good 'cause I'm too lazy to click links and if a person sends annoying pictures I wouldn't be chatting to them in the first place lol. B)

That Aim feature is somewhat annoying. And sometimes it lags for me, taking quite a while for the image link to actually turn into an image. And of course, that feature kind of "backfires", when some huge annoying image unintentionally gets imbedded in the messenger, just because there was an image link in some paragraph or block of text that was pasted.

I actually haven't used AIM before, but I have used Skype.

I don't mind Skype (although I rarely use it). If I'm going to use some sort of

video calling application I usually use FaceTime

I don't use either, but Skype looks a lot better.

The reason I don't use either is because anyone I would want to skype would already have my cellphone number or Facebook.

I've never really used aim. Maybe because I'm from Poland and people just don't use it here... I'm fairly sure Skype is more popular worldwide though, I might be wrong.

I like skype though, though I don't do video/voice calls, I just chat.

I used to stick to cell and Facebook, but Skype became much more convenient

I use it primarily for the instant messaging (When both parties are on the computer, it's a lot quicker to use that as opposed to the phone)

I use both Skype and AIM (different groups using each) and not only does Skype look better aesthetically, it's a lot easier for me to navigate and there are more features that I know are readily available. AIM had its era and it was fun while it lasted, but we're definitely in the age of Skype now. Not to say I won't use AIM, since a lot of my friends use it exclusively - I just think AIM is a bit unreliable and 'retro'. I guess some people like that nostalgia though, haha.

I use Skype for instant messaging and voice chat; I don't think I've really used it for video chat since Facetime is better for that. I've tried AIM just for fun and I thought the interface was a bit clumsy and olde-fashioned.

For me, Skype is more useful for IMs than texting is, mainly because I have one of those TracFones that charges you every time you send a text or whatever...and I'm able to use Skype on my iPod. Can even call people and stuff from it, which is a new concept to me. :)
