I think it's just a thing they say, it doesn't affect their stats in any way, and you can get it with full happiness.

I don't think that's a dinkie dino, from the form factor it's more likely to be some sort of LCD game. If you find out any more info on it, please share, I've been curious about this particular device for ages.

If it only does it sometimes, it might be that the ribbon cable connecting the LCD to the board is loose. This might get worse over time leading to a completely blank display, but your actual tamagotchi data should be ok.

You can check phone specs out on phonearena or similar sites. NFC existed in that era but it didn't become a widespread feature in phones until this last decade. Also, you'd need a way to store files to send them, and I don't think that phone would have a memory card slot.
