As a long time collector who grew up in the Connection era, I will say that I cannot stand the Tamagotchi Friends. Too many cutesy frilly characters, and the gameplay didn't remind me of older Tamagotchis at all. But if your sister plans on getting a Tamagotchi too, perhaps the TF is a good way...

Connections are perfect for me. The buttons are easy to press, and the device is pocketable for me. Vintages follow at a close second, though vintages are missing from your poll.

P1s have no memory function, so changing batteries will lead to a lost tamagotchi. If you're up for the challenge, you can try quickly changing the batteries. Vintage tamagotchis don't die immediately when batteries are removed - you have 3 - 4 seconds while the screen dims before it dies...

Did all the batteries you tried come from the same company & batch? I've gotten a few dud packs of batteries in the past which led to problems with my tamagotchis. It is definitely worth trying a different batch of batteries, if you haven't already, in case it's just a problem with bad...

Bizarre. Dying batteries usually lead to a gradual fading of the screen, not disappearance altogether like in your video. However, I did notice you had to reset the device at one point to get it to turn on, suggesting those batteries are getting flat. Have you tried different, new batteries?
