Guys, I have a question...um..is it okay to try a Tampon before your period?
EDIT: My mom has no idea what the heck is an Tampon...(she lives in China I phone her ya know)
It wouldn't hurt to try it. If I recall I tried it before I had my period as well. I guess it's best to know what to do when the time comes lol.

I'm 12 and I haven't had it. Is there something wrong with me?
Nya!
No,

Their's nothing wrong with you. It varies to diffrent girls. Some people get them at age 8, (Yes, I know someone who's 8 and got it), and some people get them in 8th Grade.

It's diffrent with all girls.

So, don't worry about it!

Yes, it is okay but you need to make sure you start with a small size first and whack on a heck of a lot of lubricant like some KY Jelly or something else along those lines. Prior to sexual intercourse the hymen is largely intact and the process of stretching it out can be quite a painful one, especially if you are dry which is why you need to lubricate. When you are having your period you won't need the lubricant because the blood does that for you.

A few important pointers:

1. Read the insertion instructions inside the packet. If you don't already know, make sure you get a mirror and have a look at which hole you want put it in! I know that sounds gross but girls have three and you don't want to stick a tampon in the hole for peeing out of or in your anus!

2. Be as relaxed as you possibly can. If you get tense the muscles surrounding the entry will become tense too and it will be very painful!!! You may wish to lie down in bed the first time you put one in so you can be relaxed.

3. If the tampon is in properly you shouldn't feel it inside you at all. If you can feel it, you need to put it in a bit further.

4. Tampons can't get lost inside you - that's an old wives tale. So don't worry about pushing it a fair way it. Some/all (depending on the person) should go inside when inserting unless you are using an applicator.

5. If you find that process a bit icky, get tampons with an applicator. It is a little stick on the end of the tampon that helps you put it in without your fingers and can be removed once inside.

You can find tampons in most stores in the health sections or your local chemist.

My Story
I started back when I was 12 (1998). I had cramps and felt really quite off colour... in fact I thought I was sick so I started taking Vitamin C tablets to try and avert the flu! Initially, I was both excited and proud of this event...though in time I do have to say it became a bit on obstruction. I was always a heavy bleeder and can say it is not fun when you bleed through your school uniform at school!!! :puroperatchi: I was also subject to intense cramps that left me crying in my bedroom. The pain was often so bad that it caused me to dry wretch. I had to take heavy pain killers early. My problems were solved by a combination between some anti-haemorrhagic tablets temporarily and converting to the contraceptive pill which also lightened the bleeding and stopped bleeds from happening for any more than 5 days.
I was born in 1998!

Ah, Bell Sprout, you are so very resourceful. Glad you are a guide.
Thanks Rachelgotchi. I think this is an important topic to have available to our members. I am glad that people are feeling comfortable enough to ask questions and make posts. There is not so much secrecy about things related to puberty as there used to be but there are still a lot of people who haven't been taught all there is to know about puberty and starting menstruation and the likes. I'd like to think that we are open enough here to be able to discuss these topics maturely.

Even though I haven't had my period yet I still use pads because I am too scared to try tampons.

Nya!

PS. I read the rules, is this color easy to read guys?

Every girl will make her own decision as to what type of hygene product to use. It is all her own preferance. Some girls hate the feel of a pad in thier undies, while others cannot stand to insert a tampon. There are still others that alternate between pads and tampons during thier period. It's all up to what each girl is comfortable with.

Yeah.

I'm most comfortable with a pad for.......obvious reasons.
